<< <i>.?Russia Holds "De-Dollarization Meeting": China, Iran Willing To Drop USD From Bilateral Trade
Could there be an economic war between the U.S. vs. Russia and China is they circumvent the U.S. Dollar Reserve Currency? Would the U.S. begin to sanction Chinese imports into the U.S.? >>
The dollar dropped as a global reserve currency would be a blessing for the US. >>
How could it when demand for dollars would be drastically be reduced, let alone the inflation from all those dollars coming home to roost. The petrodollar was purposely created by the US for good reason. Dollar demand is what sells US debt abroad. Without it, the FED - I mean Belgium - would have to buy it all.
Natural forces of supply and demand are the best regulators on earth.

We are one the country that can pay all of it's international debts with its own currency. Should that situation change we'd be in deep poo quickly to say nothing for Glicker's scenario of all those dollars coming home.

Is Great Britain in deep poo? Germany? China?
To understand why I feel the dollar losing reserve status would benefit the US would require a 50 page dissertation, but you could understand my point if you ask yourself what benefits a reserve currency brings. The most likely scenario would be a reserve currency based on a basket. And the US dollar would still be a major component of that basket.
A reserve currency is in demand all across the planet by corporations, governments and individuals. What if the FED didnt have to print so much to meet this demand? Loss of reserve status could also bring responsibility to our politicians as the US would now have to compete more efficiently with other countries. The dollar, imo, needs to lose its reserve status.
FED is not creating dollars to meet international demand. It is doing so to provide liquidity to a very broken US banking system. International trade is what creates demand for international currencies. The US propped itself at the top of that list with the it's promise to the Saudis to provide military protection in exchage for only accepting dollars for oil. The Saudis now have new "friends."
Look for an IMF SDR basket to eventually become the international currency. IMF is in reality US controlled. Until then the dollar will continue its slide into mediocrity.
US politicians could care less about selling their debt to others when the US has proven it is capable of buying it through the FED. That ponzi scheme will end badly for taxpayers and earners/spenders of US dollars.
