Questions about having old PSA holders replaced with new ones >>

Question, was going through my collection tonight and was wondering to myself if it makes economical sense to have the old school PSA holder replaced with the new ones. Also how do I go about sending these cards into PSA to be reholdered? I am so worried someone will try and change my cards around on me? It seems like cards in the newer and upgraded holder sell for a premium. Opinions please......

I wouldn't worry about PSA swapping your cards but anytime you send any grading company your cards to be reholdered you're taking a chance of them possibly being damaged. Not saying that would happen but it could.

I noticed you said your "collection". That kinda tells me you're not going to be selling these so it really doesn't matter if the new slabs command a premium over the old ones.

I have found in the past that sometimes the old holder will sell better because the prospective buyer thinks they have a better chance of a half grade bump.

Do you really think PSA is going to switch out your cards?
  • No I actually trust PSA more than I trust the fool's at the US post office! I went through my cards tonight, have around 1200 cards and pulled out 35 holders that are very old and want to get the holder upgraded, I am one of those people that cannot stands scratches and/or sticker marks so think its worth my time and the $5 per case charge to have redone! Just hoping the post office doesn't throw my box out their truck, drop.it, ect

Yes, I agree with you on the scratches that take away from the appearance. You may think about regarding a few of them. Especially ones that look really under graded, but be very strict as you select of course. If you have any of the really old ones with the very different font, and they are not too badly scratched, I think I would keep them in those holders. You never know, they may bring a premium some day.

You might want to invest a few dollars in these two items
before you take such an expensive alternative.

PlastX will remove slight surface scratches and polish
the surface of your slabs. You can find it at any auto
    parts store.

Goo Gone will remove any sticker residue in short order.
It's the best I've ever seen. No funky odor either,
it actually smells pretty good. I think a lot of stores
    carry this.
