Just leave the poor guy alone ok?

Clemente

Geez all these high maintenance eBay buyers wanting a picture of the actual label and slab and back of the card!! This seller is just getting beat down by the man. He said he'd get to it when he can ok?

I think it's funny that in the time he took to mention that he hasn't provided a back scan....he could have just provided a back scan. Oh, and a picture of the flip and rest of the holder.

Same deal on the raw 52 Mantle he is selling as well. Sadly, somebody will get ripped off, and eBay won't care.

It's just north of Louisville in hill country of southern Indiana. Beautiful place and a part of the wine trail. I know I know...we used to make fun of the name too.

He wants to sell a card and is wanting to get $5,000+ but isn't willing to provide a scan of the back....OK, I feel REALLY COMFORTABLE bidding on this card!! (not!)

Oh...don't forget...he also is auctioning a raw 1952 Topps Mantle rookie card #311. Of course, too busy to show a scan of the back, but he wants to remind everyone that is sells for $30,000+!! Please...bid on his private listing, and remember what Joe O says.....NEVER GET CHEATED!

And his Mantle appears to be in a PSA holder as well... Very suspicious and a very testy seller if a few emails set him off like that.

His listing for the 75 mini wax packs and box doesn't exactly inspire confidence, either, LOL..

    From the auction:

EVERYTHING IS UNALTERED (BY ME AT LEAST), WAX PACKS ARE
BEING SOLD AS DISPLAY PIECES ANYWAY...(TAMPERED WITH JSUT SO NO
ONE OPENS THEM AND CLAIMS THEY ARE TAMPERED WITH

Thats what im thinking. Im not a vintage BB guy, but that card looks great. Slightly OC left/right, but still a
good looking card. If it was my card and I had nothing to hide, there would be so many pics of it that people
would get sick of clicking on the next pic. Something dont smell right here.

I'm thinking that he doesn't own that card or the 52 Mantle, 86 basketball pack or the Star Jordan. All of the other cards are scanned/pictured on a maroon back ground. None of those seem to be on the same back ground. The Star Jordan is in a slab. He has also listed a few items since listing the Clemente. I wouldn't bid on either of the four cards. JMO,

    +1

The 86-87 BKB scan is definitely lifted from the internet.

After reading the lack of photo excuses Im tempted to email the DB and give him a piece of my mind..
We all know eBay won't care or do anything.

I sent him a message saying that since we both live in Indiana, I would like to just come see it in person. I asked for the cert # too. We'll see....

Got a call from Matt Miller, who thought the card pictured in that eBay listing might actually be one that I got from
    him (and still have).

I checked my copy and there is a very strong resemblance, though there are enough differences that I can distinguish
to say that I don't think its a picture of the one I own. I'll add a picture to this as soon as I can scan it so all can compare.

The most significant difference is the white "spot" on Clemente's right eye in the listed card. My copy does not have that
    spot.

Looks like he loaded up on a bunch of low $ sales to boost his feedback ahead of this BS. Still, this is a really poor (and dumb) attempt at fraud. Also, I thought raw '52 Mantles couldn't be sold on eBay?

And the Jordan Star looks like it's in a BGS case. Not sure if you guys caught this... "YES I KNOW I NEED THE SCAN OF THE BACK. ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME TO GET THE HIGHEST DOLLAR AMOUNT FOR THIS CARD. THE STAR JORDAN XRC ISN'T IN MY HOUSE BUT MY GRANDPARENTS HOUSE WHOM HAVE A EXPENSIVE SAFE. I WILL GET IT IN THE NEXT 2-3, MAYBE 4 DAYS (I HOPE NOT). I WILL GET A HIGH QUALITY SCAN AND ALSO ANOTHER SCAN OF THE FRONT AS THE PICTURE CAME OUT FUNNY..." ...so he's obviously pretty young.

The fact that he can't spell "auction" correctly in the comment section is enough for me to say there's something not right. Seriously...auxtion?
  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,742 ✭✭✭✭✭
I can't believe people are actually bidding (unless it's shill bidders, which is a real possibility since auctions are conveniently private) thousands of dollars on what are clearly stolen/lifted scans from the internet.

Don't waste your time. eBay doesn't even investigate any more.

The 'seller' pulled the bogus Clemente, Mantle and Jordan auctions. Good work all around, fellas. I think all of our e-mails (including a carefully-worded nastygram I sent yesterday) did the trick.
