I need some rookie collector help

I've collected cards since 1980 and all my cards are in notebooks or storage boxes. Lately I've been picking up some better cards out of the packs and want to put them in penny sleeves and top loaders. So, I ordered some sleeves and 3"x4" regular toploaders off of ebay. I got them and then realized I was missing a basic clue on how to put them in. I watched videos on youtube and they just talked about what toploaders to use how to put together team sets. I even googled it and can't find the info. My instinct is to put the card in the sleeve right side up and then slide the sleeve and card down in to the top loader. That seems logical but what happens when you turn it upside down? Does the card slide out of the sleeve and fall on the floor? Do you put a piece of tape across the top of the toploader.
I realize this sounds like a silly question and I could get out some junk cards and try all the different ways but it's easier to ask the experts for the best way to do this with the least chance of damage to the cards.

Just don't take your cards into outer-space and you should be fine.

^ I have to agree with this Cubs fan. I love raw cards in card savers.
Obviously both Card Savers and top loaders have their fans, so it's just a matter of what works for you.
Something else that many people do is to diagonally cut off one of the top corners to make it easier to insert cards without damaging the corners.

I dont really care for card savers either. The only time I use them is if I plan on submitting the card for grading. I have always liked the
penny sleeve in a toploader system myself.
My brother puts his cards in the penny sleeve upside down and then puts them in the toploader. That way, if it was to slip out while handeling,
at least the corners will have a little protection from the penny sleeve. Always thought that was a neat idea.
