Help With a 1967 Ed Matthews Odd White Back

I was just going through a 67 part set I have had for years and noticed one card that had no green ink on back: #166 Ed Matthews. Anyone seen this before or know anything about it?

I've occasionally seen some OPC from the 68 set with a similar white back, but never a Topps or a 67. I'd be interested in what others have to say as well.

I've never seen a 1967 white back (no green) before, but it is certainly interesting, thanks for sharing!

Wow Jim ... very unusual. Never saw one without the green ink. You've gotten me interested in seeing what other board members have to say.

Never seen anything like it myself. I did a double take to see if it was a fake on paper or something. Here's the front for reference:

Based on the remaining color still affecting the shading of the white, and the lightness to the black ink, your card was exposed to sunlight for a long period of time. Cards can be found with backs missing a color but the Mathews is just bleached from the sun.

Plausible, but I don't think so to be honest. The card is in similar condition to the others around it (purchased long ago from someone who collected long before that) and none have the same issue.

Under good light and magnification, there is no hint of green, or the borders where the green would have been. If it were the sun, I would expect that the areas that were initially white, would have discolored differently than those that were covered with green and as a result, shadows of some kind would be visible.

I'm not saying that it is anything special, just that I'm not sure that's the answer.

This auction may be helpful. Maybe you can ask this seller for a scan of the back.

For it to come out of the factory that way the white of the Mathews would look like the white on your other cards. Maybe your scan isn't representing the card well but the back doesn't look white like it would if it was printed with no green. The black ink has also faded if you compare it to your other cards.

It looks to be sun fading to my eyes as well.

Does anyone have an image of a Blank back 1967 topps card? That could help prove it is missing the green ink.
Are the blank backs similar to this color?

How the ef can someone list an item specifically highlighting the back side as its selling point in the title and then not include a scan of the back side?

lol. I got a kick out of that as well. I lined up a half dozen 67s for giggles and no two have the same shade of white/grey on back. That said, the black on the Matthews is clearly not as bold as the rest, so the fade makes more sense. It was just very weird flipping through pages and seeing an albino card like that. Made me think of those 76? mail in team cards that were on thin white stock.
