Dave Concepcion

Hello all, if this is in the wrong area of the forum, please delete or move as this is my first post. I have been a lurker for awhile as I recently got into the PSA card thing. I got out of the hobby for years after selling my collection back in '91 to buy my first new car. After having children of my own I wanted to start a collection of all of the cards that I used to have for them. I have the earliest memories of my dad buying me '77 Topps baseball but I did not start collecting as a hobby until 1982 but had a lot of '79 and '80 Topps baseball and football. I wanted to get every Topps set from '77 to the year my youngest son was born, 2010. I did that and I always wanted to get Topps sets from the year I was born (1973) and up. That is were I stopped but I am thinking that I am going to keep on going as much as my wife will hate that idea. I really missed this hobby although I do not buy any new releases except maybe a few packs of Topps Heritage here and there and a few blaster boxes of the Topps Archives.

I started with my two favorite players with the PSA set building; Dave Concepcion and Billy Ripken. I thought it would be easy as they do not have any rare cards so to speak but boy I was wrong and that is what lead me to my first post. I have been searching the net constantly for the following cards and I thought maybe one of you folks could help out; I am in need of the following Dave Concepcion regular base set Topps cards: 1984, '85 and '88. I have the Tiffany cards but the regular issues have been plaguing me. I am also looking for the '86 Fleer regular issue and the '82 Donruss regular issue. That then leads me to Billy Ripken; I need all the regular issue Topps cards minus the '88 rookie which I almost own everyone listed on the "pop" report.

Again, I read the rules and if this is in the wrong place I apologize. Thanks for any help that I may receive!

  • it's a freak coincidence but the topps 84 85 and 88, fleer 86 and donruss 82 concepcions, along with all billy ripken base cards can be found in the 1989 topps baseball boxes. would search ebay to see if any '89 boxes may be out there still. good luck

Ignore nugent, or whatever his prior board names were. We should all ignore him. Welcome aboard! Wish I could help.
  • Thanks! Yes, I will ignore him. Seems there always has to be a wise guy on a forum. I'll post over in the other section of the board. Thanks guys!
  • Interesting choice for your one of your two favorites. As a kid I once politely asked Dave Concepcion for an autograph after a game, and he spit at me and walked on by! True story. Other people have told me other disgusting demonstrations of behaviour by this guy. No other player has ever treated me so bad.

I was recently reading an article about Pete Rose, who said that when his son Pete Jr. was playing, he once called him for advice, because Pete Jr. was mired in an 0 for 22 slump. Rose said to his son, "don't ask me how to break out of a slump; I've never been in one....go ask Concepcion..."

    thought that was pretty funny
