Almost all of my boxes that I've purchased in the last year are either BBCE sourced or wrapped. I've bought very little unopened thru eBay, with very mixed results. But for the most part my eBay purchases were at the pack level. I think 2 of the 5 sellers I dealt with were dealing legit product....and yes, I did get 3 packs of 77 Topps from bruingirl before it was outed.
Anyway, I had a box of 1980 Topps BB that I bought off of eBay for 525 about 9 months ago. I bought from one of the guys that I felt had supplied legit product previously. I also bought a box of 81 Topps about the same time for 145 off BST.
I finally got around to sending both to Steve for authentication and wrap.
Do you think you know what happened?
Good News: 1 of the 2 came back wrapped.
Bad News: 1 didn't.
Good News: The box that did was the 80T BB Box. Which I expected. They looked good, though I'm still admittedly a novice, and they came from a seller who I thought legit. Stoked.
Bad News: The box that didn't came from the board.
Good News: It hadn't been "searched" necessarily. Over 20 of the packs had popped seals. This didn't come as a huge shock since my inspection of the first column of 9 revealed 5 hanging on by a thread, and 4 popped. But corner folds looked good. Source was good. I didn't inspect the rest figuring I'd rather do no harm. Anyway, Steve says probably legit but he can't wrap it. Totally understood and it's kinda more good news to me in the sense that he won't wrap anything he doesn't feel confident about. Furthers my respect for the opinion.
Good News: They're gonna get ripped anyway. Maybe sooner now.
But I'm over the moon on the 80 Topps and though it was slated for future ripping and is a great part of the current unopened collection, I'm considering selling it to fund a PSA 4-5 Aaron or Clemente RC. Especially since I managed to get one of the 80 Vending boxes in March.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't worrry either about the 81 box--popped seals are not uncommon on packs that were stored in a dry environment, and as long as the packs are not messed with, they are certainly still authentic. PSA won't slab a pack with a popped seal, either. I usually open those packs, lol..
