advice needed...

75 topps cello box, from sealed case, never been opened, perforations immaculate, steve hart stamp on back...had profitable offers on the box but really just wanting to keep it...with that being said what would you do:

A. Sell it for a big profit and save up for something bigger.
B. Keep it as is and feel good about it, (part of my own master unopened box football years collection).
C. Open the box (ending the sealed from a case) to see if there are any stars front or back of cello, then submitting all packs to PSA for 9's and
10's hopefully.
D. Not enough information to make an informed decision.

Now if I only cared this much about my regular work...haha, thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.

    A. Get something bigger and better.

I would do option A, but keep in mind I'm not a collector of unopened.

I would sell it at a profit it there is something out there you REALLY want.

Not sure how much Football unopened is going up, but if it's anything like Baseball keeping it might be a good idea as well.

Doesn't look like there are any big cards here. 10's are hard to come by and even in 9 there aren't many high dollar cards here. Swan and Fouts look like the only good rookie cards and 9's don't bring enough to open the box in my mind.

Depending on what you have your eye on, I would hold on to the box and it should be worth more every year.

  • Selling for a profit is always the way to go, unless you honestly feel in your heart that this is an item that you will always keep for yourself.

Number of PMs received from this post - O/U set at 17.

A or B (if you're going to regret selling it), lots of PSA graded 9/10 cellos listed on eBay, but only one sold in the past couple months.

I would go with option B, unless you absolutely have to sell it.

I agree with John. If you're an unopened collector, this is a box to keep. If not, or you need to sell for financial reasons, that is a different story.

    Steven-

When you first joined the boards, we spoke a few times. Based on what I think I know about you, I surmise that you'll regret it later if you part ways with that box. Heck, you said it yourself in this very thread -- you have a master pigskin unopened collection. If an almost 40-yr-old box with a squeaky-clean provenance can't become a permanent fixture, what can? I firmly believe the "something bigger" will be the value of said box as we mosey on down the road.

B, all day.......but best of luck with whichever option you choose!

    E. Open all the packs and post the results here

Thanks for all the thoughts and advice. I ultimately want a PSA 8.5 or better Nolan Ryan rookie and this box would help get me there.

The overall battle I'm dealing with is the insane amounts of money high end unopened have been going for as of late...and my brain says sell and take your profits and be happy about it, but will I be happy? No...anyone that answered B knows it would be an upsetting move even with the good profits...is the love of it, ya know?

If it was all about money, I can sell that, buy a few 84 Topps wax football and turn those and just keep chugging along, however, making an insane return in under 1 year isn't why I'm in this hobby...like many of you that collect, there are certain items that make you feel really good about your collection. This is one of those things and to replace it would be costly down the road...

Thank you all again for helping me see all the sides. They all make sense. For now it stays closed.

I did call PSA to see how to submit packs just in case I went that route and I didn't like at all the idea of packing each pack separately... on a separate note, I submitted 50 cards to PSA for the first time and they just received the package...according to what I'm reading I wont see those cards again for another 6 months and all my 10's and 9's will be 8's...great, can hardly wait, haha.

I would go with Option B. Options A & C can always be done later.

Unless there is something in particular that you're ready to use the cash on, I'd hold and revisit my options at a later date.

    Best of luck.
