Finally some success with 86 Topps

I don't have words for how much I hate opening 86 topps, but I have expressed quite a few here. Between all the chipping and the flip flopping of every card, it is a headache to break, but I had a rack case I have been slowly making my way through and a small amount popped today. No 10 on the big bomb (Sandberg) but not for lack of trying. Carter is a nice hit though:

Some nice 10's there, especially the Schmidt and Puckett.

Shoot me a PM if you are interested in selling the 4 Sandberg 9's.

I've been rapidly accumulating 1986 RakPaks to the point where I have over 5 cases of this stuff. Unfortunately only 1 sealed case. I have about 10 Raks with Sandberg showing, and it isn't really appealing to hear that time after time seasoned subbers cannot seem to get a single PSA 10 out of that Cubs 2nd baseman.

I haven't even ripped 1 single pack at this point and keep buying more. BBCE keeps asking for more it seems every time I buy it.

Is 5 out of 14 cards in PSA 10 a good return?

    Paul.

    Later, Paul.

For 1986 Topps? I'd say yes.

Congrats on a great sub. That Carter alone with pay for the case or close to it, if it was a 6 boxer!!

    Edit.
I bought 7 or so loose rack case things from krukcards last year with each having 120 racks.
I opened one and hear ya with the frustration of 86 topps. I haven't subbed any of the cards from the case, but have a few set aside.

Thanks. I'm sure others have had better success with 86 Topps, but to give you an idea, I generally hit over 50% 10s on my 80s subs, even better if you ignore where I send 10 ripkens from a break and hit none, and have hit exactly 1 1986 PSA 10 before.

I have subbed a lot of 86 Topps. I would say you did great. I am very picky with corners, centering, print dots etc, but seem to miss a spider wrinkle some times in 70's material. No problems like that with 86's though. I have only hit 2 tens on 86 Topps. They were both Mr. Ryan, so that made me happy, but it really is tough getting 10's on those with all the printing problems/centering and the black borders.

Please show a pic of one or more of the sandbergs when you get them. I've never even gotten one above an 8. My entire 6 box rack case had print dots on every brett and every sandberg.
I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

  • Is like to see the sandbergs as well. I have a 6 box rack case I'm planning to break in hopes of a few gems.
    Nice carter. Congrats.

CONGRATS, especially on that CARTER. Man, the REGISTRY really IS a drug! A "PSA 10" label turns a 10 cent card into a $175.00 card!!! Those Pucketts look like they will bring in $40.00+ too! GOOD LUCK.
    STAY HEALTHY!
