Help Building a 21st Century Set

I've started a 21st Century Type Set (2000-present) and would like some suggestions on coins to select. Although I've identified the gold and platinum that I want to purchase, I struggle with the lower priced coin that are required (cents, nickels). I like to add either items that connect with my life (e.g., I live in AZ. I bought an AZ state Quarter.) or key dates/low mintage. Are there any key dates or special issues that I can include in my 21st Century Set?

I don't think that there is anything too difficult in the 1c-$1 denomination so I would stick with things you like. You might consider some of the commemoratives from that era too. Sounds like a neat project.
