A couple of submission questions

Maybe someone can give me some advice. I have some Plymouth Whalers team cards from 1998-99 that are oversized and autographed. First question is how do you send oversized cards in? I have never found any type of holder that can fit these cards which is why I would like to get them slabbed. Second question is, since the are auto'd, do I have to have them with the autograph flip? Also, since most of the players in this set are not anybody famous, would PSA even be able to authenticate the auto's? Here is a pic of what I am talking about. I put a regular size card in for comparison.

Also, is that Whalers redemption card eligible to be graded? I have an extensive collection of Plymouth Whalers cards and was thinking of starting to grade them out just to have them slabbed. I didn't see any of these ITG redemption cards in the pop report, but I have seen other redemption cards in PSA holders such as the 92-93 Shaquille O'Neal redemption card from Upper Deck. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • Card Caver IV's are good for oversized cards. Not sure what size your cards are but PSA will accept cards sent pretty much any way but they recommend the card savers as the best for doing the least damage to cards during handling.
I'm sure they will grade your Lacrosse cards. They seem to grade pretty much everything.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Card Saver IV's but unfortunately my oversized cards are 4 1/2 x 7 1/4. I did find some 6 x 9 hard plastic top loaders for photos, but I thought PSA wouldn't accept cards in top loaders. Also, the Plymouth Whalers are a hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League, not lacrosse.

I have used the bag and board traditionally used to store comic books for items that exceed the cardsaver IV's constraints. They are archive quality so no worry there and PSA has accepted an item from me shipped in this way. When I did this, I cut down the length of the board to suit my item and then pulled the bag down tight and secured with scotch tape. If you have multiple you can stack them and sandwich between two sheets of cardboard using rubber bands just like a cardsaver I sub - packaging appropriately, of course.

I've seen this question come up before so if you search around you may find other solutions proposed in the past.

To answer your other questions, I have no idea whether they'd be able to authenticate them, but yes you'd need them in an autograph flip. Your options:

Red flip: auto authenticated, card graded
Blue flip: auto authenticated, auto graded
Blue flip: auto authenticated, no grades

Thanks for all the replies. I think I my try that comic book method. I've had these cards loose for years cause I have never found anything to hold them. I guess I could email PSA and find out which would be the best flip to go with for these. I am not super concerned with a grade since these are in my personal collection but it would be nice. Thanks guys.

If you're not worried about a grade, go with the blue flip authentication only. It's cheaper anyways.

<< <i>I know you said most of them are not famous, so why slab them if there aren't any star players from those teams? That could be a costly sub, I would look into a display case or another way to show them off. >>
