Beckett raw card review...why?

I am seeing more of these. These are cards graded by Beckett but not slabbed. Wouldn't they get a better price if the card was in a BVG case? What am I missing here?

Beckett has been doing this at shows for many years now. However, as they get out on the road and attend more shows, they've been making this service even more available. From Beckett's standpoint, they don't have to worry about transporting sonic welders or the details required with slabbing. They can do "on-site" submissions and get more material in-hand. They still get paid for this service AND they get paid again if/when the owner decides to get the RCR slabbed.

I've had a few for many years that I've never been bothered to get slabbed. And considering how rarely I sub anything to BGS (although I was their first "public" submitter ever), I don't foresee anything getting done for awhile.

I haven't tracked the price differentials, but I've seen sellers offering RCR cards for very close to the prices of their entombed counterparts. Is this the same on eBay?
  • There is no guarantee on the grade of the RCR once it leaves the Beckett table. Be wary of this.
