Just joined this forum but have been following for a few weeks. I want to thank all of you for sharing your wisdom, stories and humor. I find the forum to be a nice balance of educating and entertaining.
I'm sure many of you have similar stories, but I'm back into cards because my parents emptied out their basement and gave me all of my old cards back. I was a child of the card boom (1986-1993 were my collecting years). It felt great to sort through them and look up the current prices of wax boxes I used to only dream of owning. (1989 score)
When I got my cards back I found it most entertaining to see what cards I put in hard plastic back then. It was like opening a time capsule… I loved collecting Marino's, Emmitt Smith's and Barry Sanders… There were also some terrible future investments…
1991 Stadium Club Browning Nagle
1991 Pro Set Raghib Ismail
1992 Pacific Terrell Buckley Rookie
1990 Pro Set Jeff George Rookie
1990 Pro Set Rodney Peete Rookie
1987 John Offerdahl Rookie
Regardless, it's nice to be back. I remember stopping because there were too many card companies with too many subsets and I felt overwhelmed by the hobby. How sad is it that 2 of the greatest RB's in NFL history have terribly deflated rookie card values because so many different rookie cards were available? How much would an Emmit Smith rookie be worth if Topps was the only one in the game back then?
I'm sure I'll be posting more questions about the current hobby soon. I look forward to connecting with all of you.
