I was wondering if its better to wait for the grade of coin you want, or buy a grade lower just to fill the hole and move up in the registry standings and then upgrade later when your grade is available?

Buying fillers of common dates costs money, but of rare dates usually makes you money. Go figure
Depends on your objectives. My Modern Set is 100% complete because I went with fillers. But I set rules on what could "fill." For all slots, I eventually want an MS-65 piece, but was willing to get everything in AU-58 or better to start with as long as the coin has eye appeal. In some cases, the filler coin will be there several years so I don't mind it being there. In other cases, I was able to get the coin I needed quickly, so I did not put a filler there and waited.

Buy the best coin you can afford. Simply looking for a filler will get you lost interesting fast. Do you think what you are going to do when a set is completed
Feeling down I browsed ebay and there it was! The coin I REALLY wanted! It had the Buy It Now feature too for a good price too so I snagged it.
So wait and you will get what your coin-loving heart desires.
Forgot what forum I was in for a second what was I doing in here?
I love this from the auction description: "... if you are just looking to get into a discussion regarding my grades for argument sake, or feel that your opinion is welcome, please know in advance that it is not."
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Please put down the stone knife.
please explain, if you can, the symbolism in "the wacked out castle/lion thing" on the obverse and translate the motto or wording on the coin. what was it intended to convey to the public or the international community? i have no gripe with the coin itself, except that the obverse seems to depict a standard german motif which can be seen just as effectively on a can of lowenbrau. regarding the "ugly personification of liberty" you made reference to, there are certain things, design elements if you will, which made definite statements in regards to the country minting the coin. it seems that would be a little better way to compare the coins in question than whether or not an individual "likes" the design. as usual, just my opinion.
