Chantilly VA Show

Anyone going this weekend? I went yesterday. Didn't do as well as in past shows. Did get some nice 68 Topps BB posters.

Did see 80's sets going for super cheap. 85 Donruss for $15 (non factory). 86 Fleer Traded for $3.

My best was probably a Chet Lemon 1975 Tucson Toros minor league card for 50 cents, and a 73-74 OPC hockey NMT checklist #264 for $1.

I think admission might be up to $8 per day now, FYI.

I went yesterday (Friday) afternoon. I felt that I did pretty well. Picked up a really nice 84 Donruss set without the Mattingly for 20 bucks. Found a nice '74 Alou no position card in the 12 for $1 box. Picked up some nice Mini's, including a number of tough red/yellows for a buck a piece, and about 100 really nice '74 topps baseball for my set. One guy had a box of 70's stars that were 3 for a dollar. I bought all the nice (NM-MT) '79 star baseball cards out of it and a beautiful '73 Garvey.

  • I went yesterday (saturday) to get something authenticated by JSA. They took about 2 hours so I browsed the vendors, this was my first show. I was very impressed and ended up buying several 60's baseball cards and hockey swag.

You should consider setting up there in July - not a lot of consignment houses set up there (I saw Huggins and Scott, can't recall any others). Meanwhile, there's decent traffic for people off the street selling collections. I know I would have a big lot of consignments for you if you set up there.

The card show circuit in the Northern VA, DC and MD area is pretty lean. A few 30 table shows a year in Tyson's and Fairfax, and then the Chantilly shows three times a year.

i have been to the july chantilly show three times. enjoyed them better than the national.
Work hard and you will succeed!!
  • I was there on Saturday and thought it was excellent. A bunch of cheap junk wax and factory sets from the 80's, tons of vintage cards with numerous dealers having binders upon binders full of various years from 1950's-70's, and I thought the dealers were beyond nice with great customer service. I bought a ton of junk wax, some nice 70's raw card fliers that I will be submitting, and I finally got around to purchasing a 2012 Chrome football box that I had been putting off. All and all, it was a great day.
  • This was about my 18th time making the trip from Canton, Ohio down to Chantilly. Had a GREAT time. Only had about 6 different items signed, a Gary Thomas HOF Quarterback print that I needed Namath on, a Wide Receiver print that I needed Charlie Taylor and Boyd Dowler on, A Fifty year history of the Cleveland Browns book, with hundreds of signed pictures in it, I added Ickey Woods, and an AWESOME picture of Browns running back Boyce Green, stiff arming, and knocking Donnie Shell on his A $$. Talked for 5 - 10 minutes each with T.Y. Hilton, Doug Martin, All of the above mentioned players, Yancey Thigpen, Roger Wehrli, and Rod Woodson. Made an outstanding purchase from Phil Marks, of a SIGNED 1950 Bowman Football card from Dick Barwegan. I now have an autograph of EVERY NFL ALL-DECADE player. That is the first decade that I have completed. Pictures are up on the Autograph thread.
    I LOVE that show.
