Maurice Tillet was World Champion in the 1940s and went undefeated for 19 straight months. He was afflicted with acromegaly - a tumor pressuring the pituitary gland that contributes to over growth and bone thickening. It is rumored (but uncommented upon) that he was the model for the Shrek character.
