How can you communicate with a buyer off ebay for a listed item?

Is there any easy way to get a potential buyers email address or send them yours to sell an item off Ebay? thanks, Tom

Write a message to them asking if they are on the PSA set registry. If they say yes, you can contact them that way easily without putting a request in print where you ask for their email address. If no, you attempt to get them to contact you through the registry, but that is tougher when the other person is not familiar with it.

I had someone send me a message through eBay (which I received) that said something like:

"contact me at username attttt gmaillllllll dotttttt commmmm"

Someone else did something similar, spelling gmail as "gmale", and someone added a couple of spaces to separate a word (like d o t c o m) or other tricks that the eBay filters won't catch.

I had shipped a set that was missing a card, I wasnt aware of it and dont know for sure if it was actually missing, but I told him, I could either send him a replacement card or I could give him a refund through paypal and THAT message was censored by ebay. Ebay needs to work on their filters a little

I've seen sellers put their email address on their "me" page.
All they have to do is tell the buyer to check the ME page.

I've heard of users putting their email in a picture format.

Or if your ebay user name mirrors your email you can say that I suppose.

Or to mirror a previous response, ask if they are on message boards and work there.

I get a lot of phone numbers. Then we swap email address threw texting.

Phrases that currently get by the eBay email filters 'direct pp invoice' and 'you can text me on this xxx xxx xxxx' (no dashes or parenthesis in phone number).

If ebay does ”catch” a user doing this, what action can they take?
Tell them that it is against the rules, and remind them that an off-ebay transaction cannot be insured through their system, it something like that?
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

A ton of cards change hands privately, with buyer contacting seller and initiating off ebay deals. Often sellers will come down quite a bit to account for fees. It just requires a level of trust on both sides. With adequate references supplied by both parties, that trust is easily built. A good off ebay deal is often highly beneficial to both sides.

I've had the sellers initiate contact quite frequently as well after I submit a Best Offer (like this morning), "I can do that price for a direct pp invoice" image

It helped me locate a huge stash of unopened locally after we started talking off-Bay, garage stuffed floor to ceiling + a storage unit from a guy who had less than 20 active listings.

A couple of good tricks here already. I usually say direct invoice (people know it's paypal) and try just spelling out the email address - at blah blah dot com.

Of course, ebay being ebay, the one time I had a legitimate need to include an email address - the seller's paypal account that I was sending payment to for the ended ebay auction, had a typo in it - ebay blocks the message. Oh, Ebay!
  • If the buyer has had a previous transaction with you on ebay, you can find their email address through the Paypal - just click on details of that particular sale.

Interestingly, I had a buyer contact me recently about purchasing a card off ebay. When I responded with a disguised email address, ebay picked it out. Shortly after, I received another offer for an off ebay transaction on a different card but something didn't seem quite right. I checked out the bidder ID and Feedback and all the transactions were phony. I can't prove it but I suspect it was an ID that ebay is using to check on how willing sellers are to violate their policy.
  • Posting a picure is what I have done and its simplest way.

Let's hope so. I just worked out a deal for 4 boxes and if all looks good, I'll have to take the drive to visit him and see what else I can uncover. So far on the way, all baseball, is a box each of: 1992 Bowman, 1997 Bowman Chrome, 1999 Bowman Chrome Series 2 (fresh from a sealed case), and 2001 Bowman Heritage. The first 3 will go toward my 89-00 unopened Bowman run (base, Chrome & Best), and I'm a sucker for ripping any Heritage issues. He had a lot of more recent stuff as well, I'll have to see if he has any 70s-early 80s for the board if all works out well on this sale.
  • They have been suspending sellers who do his on a regular basis. As a seller, I never try to circumvent ebay. There is just too much to lose.

I used to do the picture method, but after seeing someone do this, I also use it. If your email is john.smith@gmail.com then I send them a message like:

    Send your paypal info to:
