Does 1991 Desert Shield Topps WAX still exist?

I bought packs back in like 1992 for $40/each and only got marginal cards (Robin Yount, etc).

I've never seen a box since then. I was just curious if legitimate wax still exists for these cards.

Thanks. image

  • I lucked out and bought one from a craigslist listing of all places about 2 years ago. They're out there somewhere, but certainly few and far between.

we did a group rip a while back with boxes bought from BBCE. Steve put them in plastic hard cases and his business card in them as proof that they are DS packs.

Otherwise there is no way to distinguish the packs from the regular Topps packs from 1991. Make sure you trust your source when buying the packs. Legit DS packs should go for about $150 per
  • Actually if you shine a black light at the back of the packs of a real Desert Shield pack, you can see the bright orange-ish colored ink fluorescing through the plain white portion on the back of the wrappers. Almost all (ie 99.8% or so) DS cards will have a orangeish-red portion of the back which fluoresce. Many regular 1991 Topps cards do not have that characteristic.

In summary, shine a black light on the back of a suspected 1991 Topps Desert Shield pack; if it doesn't fluoresce under UV light - stay away.
  • Interesting info, I never heard of that. Welcome to the boards by the way.
