Last Airbrushed Cap?

When did Topps stop using the egregious airbrushed caps? My guess is the last year these were used was '71 or '72.
Also, why did they eventually discontinue this annoying practice? Did they just start using fewer out of date photos?
One last thing...why did Topps frequently use the shot of the player from below so that only the underside of the cap brim is visible? They wouldn't know at the time of the photo that the player's team would change later, right? This always puzzled me.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>I may be mistaken, but aren't there a couple of airbrused caps in the 1978 Topps set? >>
Could be...but they definitely seemed a lot more common in 1971 set and earlier.
Edited to add: Doesn't the Upper Deck Griffey RC have an airbrushed Seattle 'S' over the Bellingham logo?
<< <i>the '72 Topps set is loaded with player portrait shots of them looking skyward, presumably for the pop fly that never landed. >>

Yes.
