American Banknote Company and it's predecessors also did this with vignettes on banknotes. Often vignettes used had no bearing on the region in which they were re-used. For example, a leopard on a Banco de Nuevo Leon (Mexico) note.

The leopard was engraved much earlier either for stock or for a particular issue back then, and reused when a custom vignette wasn't wanted or paid for by the contracting bank.

Nice pairing. Quite interesting. I like the Indiana piece, despite the heavy wear. It has character, somehow. I wonder if it was somebody's pocket piece for a while.

    Are those aluminum, or silver?

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

They appear to be aluminum. Offhand, the only other lightweight metal I have seen in a numismatic item is a magnesium alloy. And that was a medal.
