Five (5) 1990 Donruss Wax Cases....Update

I went in half with a friend and bought (5) cases of 1990 Donruss from a Craigslist add for peanuts. Any experts out there know if it's possible to pull a Aquious Test card or if there are any cards worth submitting to PSA? Or did we just by some camp fire fuel? Gonna open this weekend.image

I don't think the test issues were ever in packs. There are a ton of errors/variations in that set that some will pay decent money for. I would check FCB for the latest list of finds and wants. Here's the thread title:

Call me nuts: putting together a MASTER SET of 1990 Donruss
  • I don't know about errors and variations, but it looks like Griffey cards from that set (both DK and base card) are worth submitting if you think they can pull a 10. From recent EBay sales it looks like both are $30-$40 cards. So set your Griffeys aside.

Also, 4Sharp got for $30 for a PSA 10 Deion Sanders.

There wasn't much else. Sosa 90D rookies, even in PSA 10, are basically worthless.

  • The Aqueous cards did reach packs. I along with several others here bought some from a seller about a year and a half ago off Ebay. They came wrapped in the Donruss Canadian wrappers and the whole pack was just Aqueous cards. I certainly wouldn't see any had reached a case that was selling for peanuts though.
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

Not at that price, but I saw someone on the BST was looking for a PSA10 recently.

Seriously, though, if you got them for under $50 a case, you probably can easily get your money back doing some yard sales....key point is DONT OPEN THEM!!! The cards are worth much less than the whole here

i bought an 88 topps vending case for $35 about a month ago...i kept a select few cards from the set(mainly glavine, ripken, puckett, and ryan), and the rest went directly into the trash...i still havent finished looking through these boxes...i cant hardly stand to even look at another 88 topps card..i imagine a 1990 donruss case would be just as bad or worse than this...but if the price is right, id go for it!

Isn't it funny how sets from the late 80s and early 90s are the equivalent of a 1975 Vega in the car collecting world. They're just painful to even look at.

What started out as a fun trip down memory lane quickly turned into boredom and fatigue. Unfortunately there were no Aquious Test cards or Nolan Ryan err cards but we did pull something interesting that we can't seem to find any information about it:

My understanding of this (from the guy who sold me my aqueous cards and pulled them from packs) is that a Donruss employee cut the sheets, packaged them in packs and then took them out of the facility. He sat on them for several years and then the packs started making their way into collectors' hands. So, I don't think you'l find any aqueous in a case.
