I got into the car today and switched to WXRT (the world's greatest radio station until 1991 and now somewhat tolerable). I didn't recognize the song but a few seconds in he mentioned Jose Canseco. Long story short it was off the new album by The Baseball Project (featuring Steve Wynn and Mike Mills) and called "They Played Baseball". More or less it's a list of unfortunate events and/or scandals throughout the history of the sport (only other lyric I remember is "Lou Gehrig got his own disease".). As a Dream Syndicate and Steve Wynn fan, I never really gave this band much of a thought thinking it a novelty. But the song wasn't not bad and definitely worth a listen. I think I am more surprised that WXRT actually played a song on Yep Roc records as they gave up on independent labels long ago.
Sorry to go slightly off topic, but Jose Canseco and Lou Gehrig are known to appear on sports cards and memorabilia.

Imagine John Prine singing "The End of the World As We Know It" except it's about baseball. That's gotta be somebody's bag, right?
