OT: Anyone Going to Opening Day?

I'll be in Baltimore on Monday afternoon for the Orioles/Red Sox Opener!

Anyone else going to their team's season opener?

Got pretty good seats for White Sox opener Monday. This will be an interesting season with a first year defectee at first, closer by committee, Konerko's last season, and patchwork rotation. Further excitement added since I traded Clayton Kershaw from my fantasy keeper team for Chris Sale and a 2nd round pick.

Yes it was an emotional choice but enhances the rooting experience.

I'll be in Baltimore too. Taking my 2.5 year old for our 3rd opening day in a row. He's been talking about it all week. Each day this week he gets a pack of cards to open for his own PC as a countdown.
    I collect Cal Ripken cards, T206, E95, E210, R319.

That's a great idea! I'm going to the Angels home opener for the third year in a row. Going with my buddy though, not my boys.
  • Yes, we will be at Tropicana Field for the Rays against the Blue Jays. My daughter the autograph hound has us getting there when the gates open so she can get to her spot and chase down the elusive Wil Myers.

Got my Groupon for the Marlins!

Just kidding, I'll be celebrating my 10th year of going to Miller Park for its opener. My grandpa never missed a Milwaukee Opening Day. He was at every single one from the first Braves game in Milwaukee, all the way until 2009 when he passed away at 88. The Brewers even held a pair of tickets for him each year as he couldn't get to enough games to warrant a season ticket package. He was literally grandfathered in. He's a big reason I love baseball so much, so I try to carry on his tradition for him.
  • ^^ Great story, thanks for sharing.

I'll be at the Angels game and Mike Trout bobblehead night!!
  • I'll be at The Ballpark In Arlington, or whatever they're calling it this season, for Rangers - Phillies on Monday afternoon. I'm taking my one year old son to his first opening day! I tried last season, but my wife said at five weeks he was too young. Some of my fondest memories at the ballpark involve my dad getting me out of school for season openers, and I am hoping to make this an annual event with my son. image

lol, I actually did with the Marlins. They will be playing the Rockies (Yawn) . I'm hearing people will be getting Mike Trout Bobble Heads and we are getting a crummy magnet schedule. Jeez, how lame for an opening game.

I work at GABP, so I'll be there for the Reds vs. Cardinals. The big question here is who will be on the Opening Day lineup with seven or eight proposed regulars on the DL.

try the bacon on the stick. 3/4 inch thick and comes with syrup. I'll be there too if I get through with my work project by 11 AM Monday. At this point, it's about a 50/50 chance.

I'll be going to the Royals home opener on the 4th. I haven't missed a home opener since my dad started taking me in '83 when I was in the third grade.
  • I will be making my 18th straight Cardinals Opening Day. Seen some amazing games over the years including a Season Opener on the road in 2001 against the Rockies (Albert Pujols MLB Debut), a walk off HR by Willie Mcgee in 1997, an opening day grand slam by Mcgwire in 1998, a presidential first pitch in 2005 and the inaugural game at Busch III in 2006. Ozzie and A-B Brewery might be lobbying the White House to make this a National Holiday but in St Louis, it has been that way for years. It truely is a game day experience and like every year, just glad to be in the middle of it all

I plan on trying that (once) this season, but probably not on Monday. I have a vision of my one-year old with syrup covering his face, hands and red Rangers cap...

Hope you're able to make the game! It should be interesting seeing Tanner make his debut as a starter. I'm praying the injured 4/5ths of the starting rotation heal sooner than expected.

2 to 5 inches of snow expected here near Cleveland Ohio tonight into tomorrow morning.....hard to think about Indians opener when I may have to pull snow blower out again tomorrow morning.....good think they start the season out in Oakland.

Froze my tail off for too many opening days. I am going to wait or go see a Brewers game, assuming the dome will be closed.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • Where did you used to go?
  • I mentioned earlier in this thread that we would be there early so my daughter could work on her autograph collection, particularly Wil Myers, who never comes by to sign. Well, we were pleasantly surprised that not only did she get Wil Myers yesterday, she also got to chat with Rays owner Stu Sternberg.

is the Wil Myers auto legible or does it look like the one's on cards I've seen on ebay? just curious.....at least you saw it being written.....
  • It is very similar to the ones on the cards. You can almost make out a W and an M, but it's just a big wavy mess.
