Why is there such a huge discrepancy between these RCs?

Card A population report: 7,428 PSA 8, 471 PSA 9
Card B population report: 55 PSA 8, 22 PSA 9

Card A is 1993 SP Derek Jeter.
Card B is 1993 Upper Deck Gold Hologram Derek Jeter.

PSA 9 1993 SP Jeter sells for approximately $1,000.
PSA 9 1993 UD gold hologram Jeter sells for approximately $350-$400 (I just paid a little under $400 for one)

Only thing I can figure is that not many people know about the gold hologram Jeter RC. Probably a good buy for the future...

  • IMO most Jeter collectors know about the card(UDDK Gold Hologram) but don't really care as it's considered a parallel rookie card and not a true regular issue rookie card as the SP card is. When you look at the UPDK Gold Hologram card it looks exactly the same as the regular Silver Hologram except for the color of the hologram. Yes its rare card(the UPDK GH), but most collectors still consider the SP card his "Best" Rookie card.
  • His SP is a true RC, condition sensitive and considered super premium. I'd even go as far that the UD Gold takes a back seat to his Stadium Club card.

I hear you, but it seems parallel modern RCs typically sell for more than heavily-issued RCs (I'm thinking refractors numbered to 100, 25, 10, etc.). Agreed that collectors consider the SP the "best" RC of Jeter, but with only 20-something "9s" you'd think this would be a heavily sought-after card.

Wouldn't the gold hologram RC be considered a "real" RC since it was issued in 1993 Upper Deck sets? Maybe it's considered more like the 1982 Topps and Topps Traded XRC rookies of Cal Ripken?

It depends. I think there is a premium for the Bowman Chrome Refractors, for instance.

But for many players, the goofier parallels just don't have much of a following. Ichiro rookie cards are the same way. There's a # of parallels from his 2001 issues, but the core Rookie Cards generally get the most attention.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
