I know he is very popular with many members here, so I thought I'd pass this on. I am reading a new biography of him just published this year. Thought some might be interested in the book. BROOKS-The biography of Brooks Robinson by Doug Wilson, St.Martins Press. He was author of "THE BIRD". And no, I do not have a financial interest in the book.

Thanks again.
<< <i>Thanks for sharing. I grew up in the Detroit suburbs and played 3rd base through high school and beyond. My two favorite players were Al Kaline and Brooks Robinson. Nothing flashy about either player - just consistent quality and very high baseball IQ. And very classy people. While we have come to learn that sports figures shouldn't be role models, these two gentlemen definitely can and should be.
Thanks again. >>
This Ian exactly why I gravitated to brooksie, class act, like Gil Hodges, Al Kaline, Cal Ripken Jr ( and senior) and a few others. No ego.

<< <i>BLUEJAYWAY... Thanks so much for the mention of the Brooksie book. I've seen it, but haven't picked it up yet and this just gave me a reminder. Brooks was my hero growing up so I love to read about him. >>
Your welcome. Our local library is real good about picking up the recent sports books. Don't know if you live in Balt. but I remember driving by the old Memorial Stadium there in 1971. I think it was in close proximity to housing like in the city. I seem to recall that a small private plane had crashed into the upper deck sometime back then. Stadium was vacant at the time. Am I correct on this crash?
