More interesting useless Set Registry statistics

In followup to the last post, I went through and added up the total percentages of sets registered. For example, a number of 5.00 means the number of cards registered is equivalent to 5 full sets. If you multiply by the number of cards in the set, you would get the number of cards registered. I rounded the total to 1%, and it is certainly possible that in all of the calculations done, there is at least 1 error. Here are the numbers

Topps
1952------11.73
1953------8.79
1954------11.18
1955------9.93
1956------11.78 Highest of all years
1957------6.63
1958------3.65
1959------6.79

1960------2.98
1961------8.53 Highest set in the 60's
1962------1.49 It proves very few like this set
1963------6.27
1964------3.23
1965------4.87
1966------1.69
1967------5.91
1968------6.66 I always knew these collectors were devils
1969------4.21

1970------2.98
1971------5.00
1972------6.47 No surprise this is the highest in the 70's.
1973------1.13
1974------3.12

Bowman
1948------6.31
1949------3.15
1950------5.65
1951------5.00
1952------6.92
1953------8.44 Highest set of the Bowmans
1954------1.51
1955------1.69

The 60's and 70's are coming on strong, and I don't think it will be long before the 60's are higher than the 50's, with the 70's not far behind.

  • Buckwheat - you're awesome! We need to make you official statmaster of The Psa Set Registry. They really are interesting to look at. There is one more stat I'm interested in. What would be the sum total of all of the psa #'s of all of the cards in the registry?image Just Kidding. Thanks for what you've done.

Thanks for the interesting views of the registry. Something I would be interested in is the percentage of a given year's total population that is registered.

In 1965, there are enough cards registered to make 4.87 sets. How many total cards have been graded in 1965, and what is the percentage that is in the registry.

If you are looking for another project, I'd love to know the answer (but am too lazy to do the work myself image)

    Thanks again

  • You skipped 1956 in your list, but the figure you list for 1957 is actually the 1956 figure.
1956 with 342 cards has 4028 cards listed for 11.78 average.
1957 with 407 cards has 2698 cards listed for 6.63 average.

  • Waittil- you of course are correct. I failed to enter the 57 as I typed 57 where it should have been 56. You passed the test and found a promised mistake. There of course could be more.image

psa1965-- That is also the stat I would like to see. All it would take is to pull the pop reports fro each year. Of course, that would take some time, as it takes a while on my computer at least to load a pop report. And by the time we do it, all numbers would change.

I agree that the stats are very interesting. But useful?? The stats and $3 will get a cup of Starbucks, as they say.

What we need is for someone at the registry to post all kinds of stats. They have all of the info on their computer, and could feed it into several formulas that we all could follow. It is way too time consuming and prone to inaccuracy to pull all of this data off by hand and rework it. Are you listening BJ? What type of stats would people like to see on a regular basis?

  • They already have a running total of how many sets are registered. I would also like to see how many collectors have sets registered, and also the total number of cards that have been registered. There could be some overlap depending upon how they do it when cards fall both in both a player and set collection, but it would still would be interesting to watch the number grow.

All they need is one line like - Today there are 1454 sets registered by 115 collectors totaling 675,234 cards.
