The Power of Jeter

I understand Jeter's popularity in the hobby, and that he's had a HOF career. But the value of his cards, even this late in his career just astound me. The Jeter master set must be one of the more competitive modern registry sets. I'm also, like a lot of collectors on this board into Heritage. But this seems a little crazy to me...

True about the registry, and wouldn't this card only qualify for being optional instead of required on the registry since it is only numbered out of 5?
On there, but in red text at the bottom of the composition in the optional section, I believe.
Jordan was huge when he played but once he retired people really got a chance to reflect on just how awesome he and his postseason career was. I think the same will happen with Jeter. Perhaps not to the same extent as Jordan because of Jordan's unbelievable popularity overseas, but significant nonetheless.
I think the high prices for his stuff reflect both a rabid fan base (why I collect him) and people who think his stuff will appreciate down the road.
the gold refractors are /5
the guys that build these sets are not concerned about money.

How many modern players can this be said about? Not many.
All bets are off if it ever comes out that he did PEDs during his career.
They call me "Pack the Ripper"
Just curious, as Heritage as a product has one of the deepest collector bases of modern issues.
MJ is recognized as the greatest ever at basketball by pretty much 90% of the basketball population.
Jeter does not have that same recognition.
I'm not saying I'm a seller of Jeter stuff, but I'm not a crazed buyer either.
<< <i>I will be very happy if Jeter's /25's , /50's , /100's and SSP's eventually sell for as much as Jordan's do now. Jeter will be collected by Yankee fans for years to come but most of his cards printed above 100 are basically worthless. Buy those early RCs, early autographed cards, those tough pricey early inserts in PSA 10 now if u can afford it. I predict you will see a big increase in value down the road.

I agree. I don't know that he'll ever reach Jordan heights (saying this as both a Jeter fan and Jordan, um, not fan), but the ingredients for growing "legend" status seem to be there: high on-field performance, HOF numbers, championships, "clean" reputation, and iconic plays (think bloody jump into stands vs. Red Sox, baseball flip to home during A's playoff series, etc.) Add that to the fact that he has tons of "tough" 90s and early 2000s inserts, and the potential is there.

By the way, another one of these is up for auction right now. Might be the last time this card is seen before it heads into private collections. And no, I'm not the seller of this card.
Any Topps set over the years one would like to pursue....Yankees cards garner a premium. Mantle more so than anyone else. Jeter is this generations Mickey Mantle and will hold the same place in the hobby.
To put it in perspective, my govt job pays double in NY vs what it pays in Los Angeles.
