Fellow collectors:
It's that time of the year again and my apologies for a late start. For those that don't know, I had accident almost two months ago and riding my sixth MS150 was in serious doubt. After a couple back-to-back rides, pretty confident I can finish the 150 mile course.

Last year's CU contest: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=883303

* Like last year, I'll use random.org and post a video of the results.

* If the winner already has a PSA membership, I'll substitute gift certificates in equal value ($110) or send it via PP if you pinky swear to apply the funds to PSA.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

I've received some PMs about the accident. Long story short: I was riding in a bike lane, older gentleman didn't see me while backing out, and I t-boned his car. If it happens a second before or after and I'm most likely dead; without a helmet and I'm definitely worm food. They've accepted 100% responsibility and dealing with their insurance has been somewhat acceptable to this point... February was pretty much a blur but the most important thing is I'll eventually heal, can't say the same for those with MS.
Thanks again for the support, I greatly appreciate it.

edited to add: And thanks to WhiteTornado as well!
Some have asked for pictures of my wreck, which is understandable. A couple of them are quite gross and I figured it wouldn't be appropriate to post a direct link. If you're that curious (hey, we all can be a tad demented at times), I left breadcrumbs for those motivated to see them.
In the meantime, here's a real life example of physics. Cyclist traveling at 18 miles per hour hits a +/- 5,000 pound immovable object and the right hand is greeted first at impact:
Good times.

Crap, I forgot. Thanks for the bump.

Collecting:
Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.
Also, I received a donation from Brian L(redacted) but I'm not familiar with the name. If that's a CU member, please shoot me a PM so I can add your alias to the contest.
Thanks again!
Mucho gracias in advance-o!
BTW and FYI to all, there's no minimum donation requirement. Doesn't matter if you want to donate $5 or $500, your chances of winning are the same.
Now comes all that pedaling!
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
<< <i>Barry, good luck on the ride, I hope you dont have any flat tires >>
More importantly, watch out for those dangerous driveways!!!

45 minutes to go. Probably do the drawing tomorrow so some aliases (looking at you) can tell me who is who.

Once again, thanks for your efforts toward helping us get closer to a cure.
My mom was diagnosed with severe dementia/Alzheimer's out of nowhere. While in hindsight, could have seen some warning signs but essentially, she went from being fine one day to being in a vegetative state the next. We'll unfortunately never know what triggered it but she had brain atrophy (swelling), a UTI (they can *really* eff up the mental state for older women), gait (trouble walking and maintaining balance), and scored a 12 on the MMSE (test to check your noggin). I was told at the time that she was a goner, w little to no chance of recovery, and should prepare for things to only get worse. I was forced to make the decision to either put her in a home or get 24/7 home care. Thankfully, I chose the latter because she has improved remarkably since then. I honestly believe had I put her into a home, she would either be dead or still in that vegetative state. She cannot recall those early days but the things she said and did were absolutely terrifying. My life was over but in hindsight, zero regrets because every doctor we've seen for follow ups have all said she beat the odds. Again, she has made significant improvement since those dark days and no longer requires 24/7 care. The transition has been... difficult... but it's progress. For the past two-ish months, I've been making more time for myself. It hasn't been easy but at this point, I have to.
Which brings me to this. I completely forgot to pick a winner for the contest. I'm not making excuses and take full responsibility for dropping the ball. My sincere apologies and I'll completely understand if people don't want to participate in future contests. No hard feelings and I apologize for letting y'all down. I'm being as open and honest about everything, yet understand if some are skeptical. It's okay and completely understandable. I will do the drawing later today and announce a winner.
Having said all that, if you ever are in a similar position w a family member, please feel free to reach out. There are no easy answers and unfortunately, something our society has a major problem discussing. It's a fear of the unknown, since our brains are so complex and we don't have many answers. It's not an enjoyable experience and my door is always open.
Again, my sincerest apologies.
I'm not too worried about the contest. Just nice to see you here again.
Great to see you posting my man. Had you held out any longer, I was on the verge of driving around H-town to look for you. In all seriousness, the news about your mom is the best thing I've read in quite some time. Here's praying for continued progress moving forward, and don't be a stranger my friend.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I have SOME idea of what you went/are going thru. BOTH my mother-in-law and father-in-law were diagnosed with Dementia ... and both at a fairly young age ... MIL was in her early 70s and FIL recently in his late 70s. MIL was diagnosed about 5 years ago. Unfortunately they had to move into an Assisted Living Facility about 5 months ago. So sad to see this happen to anyone.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Thanks,
