Strongsville, Ohio Sportscard Show March 28-30, 2014

Can anyone give feedback on how good this show is?

I heard it is great for vintage with over 120 dealers.

I am from Boston and can catch a quick cheap flight to Cleveland for the day but do not want to make teh effort if the show has been a bust in the past.

  • I'm from Akron which is around a 30 minute drive for me. I wouldn't go if I was you. I think you'll be disappointed honestly. I'm gonna go but only because I'm nearby and my expectations aren't that high

I've been there a few times and I am going this year. Its a good show. A lot of vintage mostly raw I think. Not a whole lot of new unopened if thats your thing.

But a good show. I am from Canal Fulton (between Akron and Canton) so its a short trip for me too. It's never been a "bust" as far as I'm concerned. But I'd probably save my money and come back for the for the National (also in Cleveland this year).
  • I was going to say the opposite as above, 2 hour drive for me and I will be there. What are you looking for exactly? There was loads of vintage last year and I made some good contacts with dealers.
Vintage Ohio St. football items, always buying, PM me with any you might want to sell.
Also looking for 2005T FB AA, 1986T FB, 1960T FB autographed cards

I went last year and plan to go again for at least one day this year....I live nearby, less than ten miles away so it's an easy decision....There is also a large mall almost right next door so you can also go there. Lots of places to eat nearby as well. ...most of the old time cleveland area dealers set up and there usually is a lot of vintage.....I understand James Spence will be there doing autograph verifications.....check out The Plain Dealer website and if paper is available from last Friday there was an ad in the sports pages. $4 a day with $10 ticket available in advance for all three days if I remember correctly...also autographs available .... cleveland/OSU influence of course....Saturday Andy Katzenmeyer, Eddie George and Earle Bruce along with Denny McLain. Sunday Markevious Mingo, Brian Hoyer and LeRoy Kelly. Mike Doss, Maurice Clarett and Matt Wilhelm are supposed to be there as well both days here is website info for autograph sessions: www.ohiosportscollector.com
  • I live about 5 minutes from the Hall of Fame....about 50 minutes away from the show. I have went for years, because of work, I will only be there on Sunday. As someone else said, it really depends what you are looking for. I also go to the Mainline (formerly J. Paul ) show in PittsPuke, and I have been to CSA in Chantilly about 18-20 times. If you collect PRE 1965 Baseball cards, this show blows the other mentioned shows out of the water....Not even close. As I said, I have went for years, and will be going this year, having said that, I usually don't find much of what I collect. I collect NFL HOF items/autographs, but other than Bill Rosenthal, there are virtually no dealers that have vintage NFL HOF autographs. I just go to talk to all of the regular dealers that are there, that I know, I will get some stuff authenticated by Jim Spence, I am friends with a couple of the consignment guys from Heritage. A couple of years ago, I picked up a Vintage, multi signed Cleveland Browns Awards Dinner program. One of the signatures was Art Modell. The seller was pointing out the various signatures, when he got to Modell, he said it was some former player that he couldn't recall. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was Modell. I offered him 20.00 for it, He said 25.00 I said nope....20.00 He said yes.

    Can you say.....CLUELESS !!!!!

Do they have any signers? Like former Indians players like Ron Hassey or Len Barker?

I didn't see any mention of other signers other than what I noted......if I see anything in the papers this week I'll post. I know there are no current Indians since they will be on the west coast this weekend....
  • The only baseball signer, as of right now, is Denny McClain, who will be there all day Saturday and Sunday.

don't know how many of you know Jack from Jack's Cards but saw him yesterday....talked for about an hour or so about the show and cards in general....I used to do shows with him down in Canton years ago, the one's ran by Jane Bosley....anyways to make long story short he'll be set up at the show this weekend...along with Scott Snyder another one of the local dealers who I've know over the years.....see you all there....

It's always great to see Stark County representing! (I'm in Perry Township)

I've only gone to the Strongsville show once, it was just okay for me. I'm saving my "getaway day" for the National in Cleveland this year. Northeast Ohio shows seem to be football-heavy (understandably), and I'm more of a baseball collector.

I plan to go today and will provide an update later.....as for baseball cards the last time I went to the Strongsville show they were well represented.....not a lot of autograph guests on the baseball side but lots of dealers with older baseball cards....

Jack is a GREAT guy. I've been buying from him for years. Honest dealer, good prices. He's my favorite. He'll be at the National as well. I'm glad you mentioned Jack. Him being at the show makes going to the show worth it, him alone
  • Just got back from the show. It was packed. It had some nice stuff there but I only ended up walking out with a 1979 OPC bb box that had really nice crisp packs. Thinking about cracking it open

went to the show yesterday before the snowstorm, couldn't believe how many vintage dealers were there....if anyone was thinking about going and doesn't mind a little snow that will still be around today the show is worthwhile.....to be honest I only saw one dealer with new stuff and the rest all had older stuff...and by older I don't mean 80's and 90's, a lot of 50's and 60's.....
