Chances for bump ups on 1/2 grades.

Would like to hear of your experiences getting successful bumps on 8.5 to 9.0. Is it worth the cost, chance you may be lowered to an 8.0? Chances for a successful bump with either PSA or Beckett. I have some graded cards at 8.5 and 9.5 with Beckett. Is it wiser just to "stand" on an 8.5? What would these respective grades transfer to a PSA scale? Having read this forum the past few months I notice that sometimes a Beckett grade might be a lesser grade in a PSA holder. Your opinions are most appreciated.

If you submit a card for review in its current slab, you don't run the risk of having the grade lowered. Anything you are thinking about submitting for a bump, post a scan here and let some of the trained eyes of the board offer their opinions.

I have had pretty good success sending cards in other companies' holders in for review. Of course, you really have to analyze the card itself, and not just the numerical grade. My hunch is that cracking and resubmitting might yield even better results, but for me the risk of damaging the card makes me shy away from that approach...

I am at 0% on crossovers when asking for a comparable grade. PSA just won't do it much. Reviews have been mixed. I agree with ergo, post pics first

  • I tried this with about 10 cards out of over 100 8's and came up with a bill for about $100; shipping expenses, and white stickers with hand drawn arrows pointing to the corners as explanation why the card did not qualify for a bump, nothing reported or communicated otherwise.

From PSA -" While PSA graders will evaluate all of the attributes possessed by a card in order to determine if the card may be eligible, there will be a clear focus on centering." Which makes me wonder why they denied the bump for the corners issues...

Plus, the white stickers didn't peal off cleanly so I had to carefully clean them with windex and goo, so add about 3 hours of lost time and 10 cards with microscratched cases to the cost of trying to get a bump.

  • The feedback on a rejected bump is horrid. I get better feedback from my blow up doll girlfriend.
But when it works - when you really nail the bump - 'tis glorious.
  • But to answer the OP
I think bumps to the next full grade, especially 9, as a review, are tough. The half grade is theory is elite for that grade by the loose definition offered. But it is still a nm-mt card - just a really nice one.
