New Scanner // Pics

I have been putting off buying a nice scanner for quite a while because I always start to imagine the card(s) I could buy with the money. Recently I put aside some dough for a scanner and I thought I'd share with you how nicely the scanner does. I purchased an Epson Perfection V700 Photo based on some threads I'd read here previously. Although expensive, this is one of the few scanners that still has a cold cathode fluorescent lamp instead of LEDs. One of the things I could note from comparing scans of cards done with LED lamp sources is that the light does not streak across the reflective surfaces. I'm thoroughly impressed with the images that this scanner produces and have taken time over the past several days while on vacation (I know, I have a problem...) to re-image my entire collection front and back taking care to trim the edges exactly and maintain the correct aspect ratio - painstaking but worth it in the end I think. Since I don't pull out my slabs all the time, I feel like the back scans have really added a lot to how I enjoy browsing my own collection. Previously I was using the scans from auctions I'd win or taking photos with my iPhone - this scanner is a VAST improvement. I've included a few images of cards that I thought came out exceptionally well here in the thread. These are all without any adjustment to coloring or brightness. Feel free to browse my entire published collection at the link below and let me know what you think.

P.S. - I didn't do the lid-up at night scanning technique because I'm not often up when it's pitch black out (early riser) and I think the cards came out very well as-is.

  • Very nice!

I've been thinking about getting a new one myself. Where'd you get it?

Very nice scans. Thanks for sharing. Been using a canon for a while, and I like it, but the bed is getting scratched up and I have started looking at new ones. Will look more closely at Epson now.

At the time I bought, this was the best deal:

    Adorama

I found it for sale on eBay at a decent price but it was going to add sales tax in to the transaction. So, I googled the seller name and found that they have their own website which didn't charge tax or shipping. It is actually about $46 less at the link above than what I paid for it at the time I purchased.

I think you'd like the newer Canon version Jim. My next bonus depends on it. image
