Tough sets you built the hard way

What sets did you put together that were tough to finish? 2 of them for me were:

1991-92 Puck Candy Pro Set Hockey

Wow, that was a tough one to put together by buying the candy bars. I worked at a hospital at the time & they had a candy machine that had Puck Candy w/ one card per package. The candy was horrible & duplicates were abounding. Luckily one other guy in the hospital was collecting them too so we were able to trade each other for our doubles

the second was the 1992 Fleer Performer baseball set put out by Citgo gas stations. When you purchased a certain amount of gas, you could get one of the cards. I had everyone I know going to Citgo to get gas so I could complete that. Of course once the campaign ended they dumped the unsold cards to the market & made them almost value-less

Kudos candy/granola bars put out a Star Wars set that you cut out of the back of the box. I think there were 10 or 11 cards in the set but I had to buy 10 or 11 boxes to get all of the cards. i was the only one in the house who ate kudos so I ended up eating all of them. I guess this wasn't too hard but I sure got sick of Kudos after that.

Here is a great little set of 90 cards. When you redeemed a 2000 SP football card they also sent you a 2 card silver foil pack of these. It took a few years to finish!

Very nice set Tony!!! Do you have partial sets of the other years or did you use the proceeds to fund the 1952 set? I just hope you didn't blow it on '75 minis or something. image

'41 Goudey in all 4 colors has been tough for me, down to 1 now but it could take forever.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

A signed 1972 Topps baseball set, multi player cards and players who passed on made it a challenge.

Not as tough as chewing all the tobacco it would take to get them all in '52. Hahaha. I've got a few Red man's I love those. The Red Heart Dog Foods are great too

In the early 80s I had a third set of molars come in. To make room for them I had to have what was thought to be my permanent set of molars pulled. This was done 2 at a time about four weeks apart if I remember correctly. Of course I was terrified. To entice me into getting into going my mom bribed me with the promise of 10 packs of hockey cards after each appointment. I didn't put an entire set together that way but it was a very painful way to get the first half the set done.

Mike, I used some of the funds from the other red man sets I was going to build to help with the 52 in nicer shape. Unfortunately, I have been fighting off Tim to try and use some of
the dollars on the 75 mini's. Thank goodness he doesn't collect other stuff I do. I couldn't handle losing auctions on a consistent basis! Some of the funds just went back to the Conte Casa too.

    1962 Auravision Records
    1971 Bazooka Numbered
    1990 Donruss Aqueous Test
    1957 Kahn's
    1977 MSA Cup Lids
1980 Pepsi-Cola All Star Prototypes (complete but contains four proofs)
    1982 Topps Blackless
    1985 Topps Minis

Quite a few other sets would make this list except for the annoying fact that they aren't yet complete. image

Pretty impressive. I'd feel bad because you have some incomplete, but instead I'm mad that you have so many completed
