Thank you Mr. Rick Probstein

For selling my 73 Clemente PSA 9 that crushed the VCP average: $735, nearly double VCP & $300 more than one that just sold on Sunday.

Thanks Rick!

Is this a case where a rising tide lifts all boats or because this was a Probstein auction that saying doesn't apply. Just being curious this morning. image

"It just goes to show how utterly Stupid some people in this hobby really can be."

Where is the line to cross into "utterly stupid". I know there is no real answer to that. I often think of myself as being "utterly stupid"
when I spend $10 to buy a PSA 8 1970 Topps baseball common for my registry set. But if I want to complete the set (and I do) I've got to pay it.

So little that you will wonder how he makes a profit.

I was resistant to the idea for a long time. Tried it once and all doubts went away. Now, sending packages to NJ so Probstein can sell for me is just business as usual.

Interesting to say the least.. Ebay takes 10% so it looks like he makes 1%?

Off auctions they don't take that much especially for a high rated/volume seller like rick. Plus fees on auctions cap off at what, 100 or 200? He does just fine. Great deal for consignors and rick alike.

Maybe the winner will try to flip it for a quick profit, realize they can't, and then try to return it.

    WTF?

Marketing the card is one thing, but this one makes me think Rick needs an eye exam.

A collector found a card he wanted, bought it, and is now happy. Good for him. Not everyone shops the same way, not everyone pinches every penny, and not everyone sees the same beauty in the same cards.

That Mays looks like a 9 to me. Surely, there are much more egregious examples of puffery than this one.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
  • The mays looks good enough to me too for a 9.

Pretty nice 9 and pretty close to "Mint, Centered, Flawless"

It might be that the centering on the back of the card that kept this from being a 10.

Nothing's flawless IMO, but I think it's a pretty good Mint 9 myself. Centering on back like someone else mentioned is off a bit.
  • The mays is centered enough and flawless enough to me for a 9.

Definite tilt to the card... What are PSA standards for this? Thx

<< <i>Definite tilt to the card... What are PSA standards for this? Thx >>

No tilt on the card....the card itself is not squared in the holder.

<edit> the left and right borders do flare in on the left and out on the right, so there is a bit of a front centering issue. I stand corrected.

Here is what it looks like when I rotate the entire image 1/2 degree to the left and cut Willie out of the pic.

Fees cap off at $250. I am certain he pays a different rate than most sellers due to his volume.
  • Isn't that max fees per item changing to $750 soon?

I think he meant the title to say: mint 9, tilted like a pinball machine.

That Mays 9 is just awful. Puffery in the ad and poorly graded too.
    A double whamo special.

If there wasn't a scan and you bought this card sight unseen and thought it's going to be a solid 9,
    you would be sorely disappointed.

Last package I sent was received on a Tuesday, spoke on thurs. about a few things ,listed over the weekend
and paid following week. To many sellers out there for anybody to wait weeks, months to get items listed.
