How much would a set of MS67 SBA run?

Minus the 1981-S, Id settle for a MS65. Id be looking for coins (grades) before the big jump in prices.

Thanks

    Sean,

The "common" date 67's from 1979-1981 run anywhere from $150 to $200, depending on who is bidding. The 1999's can both be had for $50 each usually. The 80-S, 81-P, and 81-S are killers, as well as the 79-P Wide Rim.

I think those prices may be low for MS67s in the current market, at least for nice attractive examples.

In addition to the tough coins Keith mentiones, the 81-D in MS67 is an expensive coin right now too -- most recent auction sale was for over $500.

Just curious, why would you want to do this set? You mock modern collectors. Are you trying to put together a set of the ugliest classic (Seated) coins and the ugliest modern (SBA) coins?

The Arrows & Rays Seated coins are pretty cool. Other than that, yawn.

  • Sean,
If I ever get that far I will let you know. LOL!imageimage The 81's are the killer dates in anything above MS66.

I would be happy to have either set!!

  • I actually thought the coin was ugly as hell myself until i recieved a MS67 1999 from Larry. I think their actually pretty nice in higher grades. I wouldnt mind doing a set, as long as the price isnt ridiclous. So what are the dates/grades just before the major price increases? Can someone break it down for me...

This set could be put together at about the same average price/coin as the 1999 MS67s:

    1979-P MS66
    1979-P Wide Rim MS65
    1979-D MS66
    1979-S MS66
    1980-P MS66
    1980-D MS66
    1980-S MS66
    1981-P MS65
    1981-D MS66
    1981-S MS65
    1999-P MS67
    1999-D MS67

Many of those dates could be bought in one-higher grade without getting into "super crazy" prices, at least not compared to many other series. Have fun! image
  • Thanks Tad. Any est price range your talking for a set like that?

Of the top of my head, about an average of $40-45/coin... the 80-S, Wide Rim, and a nice 81-S may be significantly more than that, but many of the others are less than that.

I'm trying to make the first 1981-S MS67 SBA.

Easy about criticizing the Seated Lib. Varieties. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I am trying to build a complete, high grade, variety set of S.L. Dimes (i.e. the 6 St. Lib. dime varieties described by Norman Stack in his "United States Type Coins" book). I now have 5 of the varieties (all except "stars, no drapery). This is a pretty good excercise to find decent, representive coins.

Maybe even expand the exercise to encompass all the 19th and 20th Century dime types & varieties (11 coins).
I have never seen a Peace Dollar that I did not like!!
