  • I saw that, however the all stars don't appear to be refractors
    It never leaves you...

I agree. The all star sheet is not a refractor. My guess is the refractor sheet is printer scrap that got loose in the wild.

Over. Or are you asking about from Phil alone? Either way, I'm sticking with the over. image

Anyone have a thought on fair market value given the scarcity and popularity of the set? image

Value is tough because in the end it's going to go to a sheet trimmer who thinks he can get like 15k out of it once he does his thing.

Using only excellent condition cards from the refractor sheet I get the following:
The value of the sliced up refractor sheet raw is $2427.02
The value of the sliced up refractor sheet in PSA 9 is $3890.82
The value of the sliced up refractor sheet in PSA 10 is $27,673.57

Too bad the Bernie Williams is damaged. It would be a $4000 card in a ten.

Phil- no doubt someone is going to grossly overpay for the sheet based on your numbers. From what I can tell there aren't really any of the super tough 10s on there (Destrade, Key, etc...). And with the owner thinking everything is a refractor his reserve might be in the stratosphere. The non-refractor sheets aren't worth much- I have the regular sheet myself with Piazza and the All Stars which I paid maybe $150 for. The jumbo All Star sheet is kind of cool, but I don't think it would bring much on the open market.

I contacted the seller and he said the reserve is in the $20k neighborhood. And he's adamant that all sheets are refractors. I can't tell you how many times I've had this argument with people who think their base cards are refractors. This guy actually has some of both sitting in front of him and still can't tell the difference.

I profess total ignorance on distingusihing refractors from non-refractors. How can one tell? I purchased a few packs of 93 Finest from a recent board rip and all the cards I pulled look the same to me (leading me to believe I did not hit a refractor).

Tilt card in bright light, preferably sunlight, if you see a rainbow effect in the gloss it's a refractor. It took Topps a few years to realize there were many who had trouble distinguishing between the two and they started printing 'Refractor' on the back.

Thanks. I will have to try that as I could not distinguish any as being refractors when I opened my packs.

Sounds about right. vintagesnowmobiles has one at $2600, so take about 25-35% of that and you have your true value.

And they're SHEETS, no less. I can understand difficulty distinguishing single cards, but sheets you have a huge surface area to compare. Should be infinitely easier to distinguish the rainbow shine versus non-rainbow shine.
