Need advice; crack and sub or review.

Hi every one!

Latest pickup arrived today and I am curious what you guys/gals would do.

Card is graded SGC 96 and I "need" it in a PSA holder. I have cracked out 8's and 9's in the past and gotten obliterated by PSA with 5's and 6's. Really hoping for at least an 8 here.

Card does show dotted lines all around, but cut close on top right side. Back of card is fine and it's hard to tell in a holder, but surface, focus etc. look great.

I was thinking of sending in using the crossover service and asking for a minimum grade of 7.5 or 8.

Any thoughts out there? Something I haven't considered?

Thanks in advance for thoughts and/or ideas.

Sounds like you're better off crossing over than cracking out. That's what I'd do (and have done) but I'm no expert. Also, don't you already have this in your master set? Are you just looking to upgrade?

I would send in as is. I have done it with moderate success. Nothing risked but a few dollars.

Looking to upgrade. I have a 5.5 in my collection now and paid good money for the SGC 96. My worry is if I crack it out and send it in PSA might grade it much lower and I end up with an expensive 6.

I think I'll try sending it in for a review with a minimum grade of 7.5 and hope it grades higher.

From your experiences you detailed here, plus what I've read from others, crack outs are a real crap shoot. I think a crossover is the way to go. I've had good luck with those.

That cut is so close on the top left that I think you're doing the smart thing by using Crossover. There's still black showing but you'd hate to get the dreaded "Authentic" grade on a crackout (assuming they treat these like they do the Post Cereal cards).

  • Based on my extemsive experience with Bazooka cards, you're likely going to get an Authentic if you break out and submit to PSA due to the upper left edge. I know I wouldn't have paid $200 for it if I had in mind to submit it to PSA.
  • I always try cross over first, then crack out. I've had good luck with SGC 96 cross overs.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have quite a few Bazooka, Post, Jello etc cards and there's no way this one gets an "authentic" grade. I have seen 5's and 6's that have small areas with no border showing, so this one should be fine.

Although you never can be sure.

Sometimes you have to gamble a little if you want to upgrade a hard to find item.

    Review it is!

I personally don't like hand cut cards. As I build my Yaz collection, those will be the very last ones I seek. But I know to have the #1 master set (like you with Killebrew) you need to include those.

THAT'S AWESOME! Must be an incredible feeling to have the nicest known copy of a rare card.

Glad I only collect one guy and his cards are reasonable compared to many.

Those Yaz guys are especially crazy.

  • Wish I had seen this thread earlier.

Grats on the crossover, I was the seller of it to you and the submitter too. A nice card all around and glad you got the highest graded PSA! I knew it would at least grade but as many have posted its always a crap shot on grade with handcut cards.
