    Neat.

No wonder they're so inexpensive. Now they'll probably get cheaper still.

I like this in situ picture. Also the pictures showing how they were strung.

Amazing find and pix, esp the strings of cash and the box of spades. Gives a little sense of the scale on which these things were produced, and that (if I read correctly) was in the 1st century AD.

Looking at the in situ pic of the strings, one is tempted to make the obvious pun that 1.4M cash is certainly "long green" but I'll resist.

    Thanks for sharing the link!

  • Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this.

If I understand correctly, the production of spade money of this type within the Han dynasty has not previously been confirmed. If they found casting tools for these spades here it may be a minor revelation for that area of study.

Can any experts shed more light on this?

Regardless I look forward to more information from this find.

    Fascinating.
I can't help thinking about the time when these were first buried.
As one scenario; those who knew where they were hidden could possibly have been victims of a 'take no prisoners' policy.

I was just looking at these pics again and I notice that the spade coins and some of the coin molds are from the Wang Mang interregnum. For reasons unknown to me, I have just started reading on these coins in order to start collecting them. Looks like I should go to Inner Mongolia.

Collecting Wang Mang, in particular, or do you have broader parameters?

I have never collected Chinese ancients before so I thought I might start with the Wang Mang issues. I plan to spread out a little later.

So, where have you been getting you Chinese cast coins? any recommendations where I could I could go shopping online?

Hi, Sumnom. I have sent a PM.
By the way, I finished reading the book that you had recommended. Fascinating. Explains a lot, actually, about Korean history. I feel enriched.
