1993 SP Jeter-why such a large discrepancy in BGS/PSA 9 prices?

In some cases, a PSA 9 of this card will reach 3x what a BGS 9 will.

I'm assuming it's because PSA is the industry standard, but any other reasons?

Is BGS more lenient in grading this particular card? Is it because people have had very little success crossing the card to PSA from BGC?

Any enlightenment appreciated!

both psa and beckett have graded approximately 11,000 each of the sp jeter.

    psa 9 450

    bgs 9 1420

    bgs 9.5 143

    psa 10 12

so the pop report probably dictates the big difference. psa basis everything on the corners. that's why you see some funky looking 9 and 10's from time to time.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Slab collectors prefer PSA slabs over those of other companies.

It is specious logic to compare any BGS grade to its seeming PSA equivalent. BGS uses subgrades and the way people shop for BGS cards makes this an apples to oranges comparison. A BGS card may have a subgrade beneath the overall grade; i.e., an overall 9 with corners that are 8.5. These cards are the quantified "low-end" examples of the grade, and should be compared (if comparison is necessary) to low end PSA 9s. I'm contrast, there are also QUAD 9s, or cards whose four subgrades are all 9 and higher. These would be the solid to high-end specimens.

Many people with bad eyes or who just blindly shop for the grade either cannot or do not care to parse a high end PSA 9 from a low end one. Thus often times a low end psa 9 will sell for similar to a mid range 9, and the prices of the 9s stay somewhat consistent-- regardless of card quality (because they all say the same number on the label). The gap between quad 9s in BGS and PSA 9 will thus be narrower.

    Also, The Registry.

If one cares about buying the card and not the holder for a collection, there is tremendous value right now in hunting down high end BGS 9 Jeters.

Hopefully I won't be called a heretic or have it suggested that I'm drinking anyone's Kool-Aid, but this is under the assumption that 100% of the card is actually in the holder... My supposition is be that many higher end BGS 9's (not all, but a higher percentage that some would like to acknowledge) and most, if not all BGS 9.5's, would not make it into a PSA or SGC holder if they were cracked out.

Feel free to grab the torches and pitchforks.

Someone should turn this into an old style propaganda poster. That'd be awesome.
