Friday Night Retail Rip

Went to the local franchise of a bookstore chain and they were selling repackaged old packs - a box of 10 assorted packs for $7.50 . I figured, "what the hell." Below are the results

I never ripped a pack of these 86 Fleer stickers before now. The Ryan turned out to be the pull of the night (it's all downhill from here folks). It had rough edges like vintage OPC. Not sure if that's typical.

Next up was 88 Donruss. My first ever pack of cards was from this set, so this was very nostalgic. A couple of observations: Aside from the Shawn Abner rated rookie, all these cards were consecutive numbers: 218-231. I didn't remember them being collated like that back in the day, but I guess they must have been. Also, every card in the pack suffered from fish eyes. I think this is unusual for the set, no? I don't think my old ones in my common boxes typically have f.e. Pulling Bo and Murray was fun anyway.

89 Bowman. Would have been nice to pull a Griffey, but instead the results were god awful. The Snider reprint was kind of cool, though poorly printed

1990 Fleer, even worse than the 89 Bowman. Nothing to see here, folks. Moving on....

91 Upper Deck. Cool to pull cards of Morris and young versions of Vizquel and El Gato Grande. The photo on the back of Zane Smith's card was awful; I count 4 chins and a mullet.

Did Chris hire you to be the opening act Dan? image

Out of all those packs, the only ones I remember ripping were the 1988 Donruss and I still have the cards to prove it, LOL.

Looking forward to the next installment.

93 Upper Deck Fun Pack. I don't remember these. Completely new to me. The Ryan is kind of cool I guess.

2006 Topps rack pack. It was kind of cool to pull a Bagwell because, when I was in middle school, I used to collect Baggs cards. This was pretty interesting: the middle cell of the pack had an extra layer of cello wrapping. Inside were 3 "vintage" cards. Too bad they were from the 80's and complete commons. Still, a cool idea.

08 Topps Opening Day. Never been a fan of these. Tek and Wright were decent hits I guess.

Last pack: 08 Topps. Weird to see Piazza in an Oakland uni. Also got an overweight and overpaid Andruw Jones
