R.I.P. Dr. Frank Jobe

i suppose it's only appropriate to acknowledge the life and accomplishments of a man who brought the words "Tommy John Surgery" into our lexicon. he figured out a way to give us back our athletes when their careers were hanging in the balance. without his efforts, we might have a lot less to talk about. or collect.

thank you Doctor. we are blessed.

He deserves recognition in the HOF.

Sorry to hear this. How many doctors specialize in this type of surgery? I only hear a few names associated with reconstructing elbows. I hope they are mentoring replacements so the skill isn't lost in the future.

Just saw a story on ESPN about the good Doctor. He was officially recognized by the HOF last year.

I had this surgery a few years ago by an orthopedic surgeon from a local office. I am pretty sure its fairly common now.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

some of you may have heard of Dr. James Andrews who is credited with having perfected the procedure after studying with Dr. Jobe.

Is the surgery the same for us weekend warriors vs pitchers who throw 90+ MPH fastballs?

We all come out with the same parts, so fixing them is the same. Now, ability of those parts is what separates us.

I'm not sure what type of recognition Jobe got from the HOF last year but he is absolutely deserving of a full spot, complete with plaque, like any player would get. He and Marvin Miller both. Jobe's work has saved many a career.

I don't have a Hall vote but I'd give Dr Jobe a vote if I had one. He's a legit contributor in that his contributions in the medical field actually helped the sport, and didn't hurt it.

True, but the quality of surgery is not the same. An average quality repair is probably good enough for most of us but not for a pitcher who wants to throw 200 innings a year for another decade.

It tells me a lot about the character of a man - when creating a ground-breaking procedure - that he doesn't name it after himself but the patient who was willing to try the surgery. R.I.P. Dr. Frank Jobe!!

Rest In Peace Dr. Jobe. On the MLB channel I just heard that 34% of Major League pitchers that pitched last season had the operation! WOW!
