Nice Lester "The Molester" Hayes that sold. I still get the occasional chuckle however at cards of guys like Diron Talbert, Willie Parker etc going for double digit or even more money. Card grading and registry. Also known as how to turn that .05 common into a possible $166 Gem image

Amazing that a bada$$ like Jack Lambert played Middle LB at 6'4" 220lbs. Boy, how the league has changed.

Wow, that's crazy. I'll have to comb through my old sets. I doubt they survived my 13 year old hands unscathed though. image

Now, would you please pop the first WM 10 in 34 years and sell it it me for an exorbitant amount of money? image

Who is this WM you speak of?

    Wilbert Montgomery I'm assuming
    It never leaves you...
  • Try finding Montana 81 Topps, Elway 84 Topps or Rice PSA 10's.....

    Correct.

Jeff and I have had more than one discussion about how this set is a sleeping giant. No real RC power to send a thrill up your leg, but an absolute beast to compile in high grade. Out of 528 cards, 102 have yet to achieve gem status (including Wilbert), and 109 are pop 1. Hence the landing spot for the Lambert.

80T football has long since been an affordable box to acquire, but it is starting to creep. Probably for the aforementioned reason, as well as the fact that it's -- after all -- a 34-year-old box of cards.

You mean I need to go through that set too.... Thanks for the heads up and time to check out my 80s to see if I have anything 10-worthy. If either of you come across an extra 374A (Reece w/no position), please PM me. I've been hunting for that one in any grade or raw for quite some time.
  • The 1980 set is a beast. Last year I opened 3 and a half boxes and it yielded only 3 cards that got a 10. Thankfully, two of them were pop 1's (Joe Ferguson and John Fitzgerald) so it ended up paying for the purchase, but between the centering being brutal, easily chipped borders, and surface issues plaguing the set, it will remain a toughie for many years to come.

Wow...I had the 1st or second Hayes PSA 10 and sold it to FightForOldDc (sp?) for a lot more than $252...still a decent price though. Amazed how well Payton's still sell - guess I haven't checked the pop report...might be a tougher 10 than I thought.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.
