Shipping a refunded card by Ebay Buyer Protection-how careful should I be?

So I won an Ebay Buyer Protection case for a card that I received damaged (it was not secured at top of holder and top was damaged).

The guy who I'm sending it back to is pretty livid. I'm using the label Ebay provided to send it back and will have delivery confirmation on it, but what's to keep the seller from claiming I didn't put the card in the mailer, for example? Or does Ebay consider it delivered as long as the package is scanned and received on the seller's end?

Thanks for any advice, this is the first time I've had to use the Ebay buyer protection.

You should be fine. There's no way to be sure the seller won't play games, but ebay protects the buyer in these cases not the seller.

Yes, I've been on both ends of that truth.

May as well take a picture of the item going into the packaging and save the tracking no., but I'm pretty sure you get your refund as soon as the tracking no. shows as having been delivered. I don't know what happens if after you receive your automatic refund, the seller decides to claim either you switched the card for one in lesser condition, or even that you sent him an empty envelope. It is an imperfect system with no real way to be sure who is in the right, unfortunately, so they operate on a bunch of assumptions.

In this case I'd buy insurance when you send it back.

    And a signature.

If it's less than $250, a signature is not required, just DC. In fact, if he has to sign for it, he may refuose it and have it sent back to you.

I'm getting pretty sick of these "livid" sellers personally. You know the ones who get all upset if something goes wrong with your order...I thought their job is customer satisfaction. Whatever happened to "the customer* is always right"?

*--That's provided the customer is not trying to be dishonest and/or abusive of course.
