Following up on the rare Fleer BB and OPC Hockey discussions...
How much unopened 1988 Donruss do you think remains?
a) a Baker's Crapton (1 more than a crapton)
b) enough to fill up enough of the Grand Canyon to make it the OK Canyon
c) enough that if you collected it all in one place it would create it's own gravitational pull
d) roughly equal to Sid Fernandez + Prince Fielder + Bob Hamelin
Thanks. There is a guy down the street selling it for $12/ton and am wondering if I should invest my kid's college fund.

e) All of the above, but at $12/ton and no consideration to space, I'd be a buyer.
Just because I opened so much of this product back in the day (I mean, who could resist buying full cases
from Sam's club) I wouldn't take it even if they wanted to pay me to haul it away.
I'll start. I gave some away last year, so now I have none.
+1 for good spoof.

I have some '91 Donruss rack packs I'd like to sell that person (or anybody)
<< <i>I've never seen one at auction from a major auction house. >>
Two words, private sales.
Full disclosure, I have 4 boxes I purchased in 1988, otherwise, I might need to get them authenticated.

Collecting:
Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.
<< <i>Don't try get me down off the high of recently purchasing a 1988 Donruss Todd Stottlemyre RC PSA 10. I mean come on, it's a POP 2, there can't be much unopened left it this is only a pop 2 card. >>
I think I might have been the underbidder on this one. I really coveted that card for my PC, but I set a firm stop and refused to go past my snipe of $3.17, POP 2 or not.

Seriously, it was comical how much 1988 Donruss was/is out there. I would see it at car washes, Pharmacies, Clothing retailers, candy stores, hardware stores, etc. Everywhere I went it seemed like Dale Murphy was following me

If you had a bunch of it at this point, the only way it would make sense to sell it is if you could find a local buyer. Otherwise, you might as well open everything you've got, take out all the Glavines, and use the rest for kindling.

Crap, even I'm disqualified.

Sweet -- I think I stopped at 2 or 3 boxes (didn't have the scratch to go crazy -- plus I was buying more Score).
Now, if we are talking about 1990 Donruss and Fleer, then I'm out.
<< <i>What do I get for having never opened a single pack? >>
You get the empty, haunting, soulless feeling of never pulling a Mackey Sasser Rated Rookie straight from the pack.

Cha-ching! I think I only opened a box and a couple cellos back in the day, probably the only reason I'm one of the few interested at $12/ton. You couldn't pay me enough to take on 87 Topps or Donruss with all that I opened back then.

That's what that is. I thought it was mono.

They called 100 of one card a "brick." What would you call 4,500??

You know, that's not a bad idea. Bring down the costs of house building by using compressed 1988 donruss instead of wood.

<< <i>Seeing the two links to the 4500 Stottlemyers and the 23000 Sierras brings up an interesting question, or two? Why these two players and are they really worth any of what theyre asking? Honestly, ONE Stottlemeyer is worth nothing so nothing times 4500 is still nothing, yet theyre asking $300 for it?? >>
Not too long ago I gave another three grocery bags of cards to my father in law to use in his wood burning stove, including 2 or 3 ripped boxes of 88 donruss. Apparently they are great for getting the fire going. So in my opinion the value of 23000 Sierras is determined by the local price of a starter log. Additionally the value fluctuates seasonally.

I never did. Where's my coin?

My son is in Cub Scouts -- We use old cards (such as 88D) as part of our homemade firestarters when camping.

A PSA 9 sold for $12, so those 4500 cards could be worth $54,000! $300 is a bargain!
<< <i>We should do a poll and see how much 1988 Donruss CU members have.

I may be the rare person who has never opened any 1988 Donruss, but I do own a factory set that I bought in 1988.
