Pretty coin, but I am afraid that the exposure on the image brought the bidders in. I would say you are right. Common date, ho-hum grade, nice toning, excessive money.
I do not believe the images juiced the pictures as much and believe the coin looks every bid as nice in hand. While the realized price was more than I was willing to pay, I was ready to go 15x going rate.
It looks like a true beauty and I am not surprised that somebody was willing to step up big for that.
Super sharp and rare dual crescent with some phenomenal, wide spectrum color and patterning across the elevations, with great luster and pop based on the photos. A very distinctive toner. The bigger guns showed up on this one for a reason regardless of the technical merit, and my nuclear bid was nuked. I am sure the haters will bristle with the same typical outrage at the price, and would prefer 30 common MS62 white coins at the same price. Yawn, no thank you. Congrats to the winner.
<< <i>I am ignorant with ebay, if you look at the bidders, take the second to the last one, n***k27668, doesn't that mean the bidder has bid and won 27,668 items on ebay and yet he/she has a 42% bidding activity with this seller. Does that mean what it implies or am I misinterpreting the info? Just trying to understand ebay a little more , I just recently eclipsed 100 items purchased so I still consider myself a newbee. >>
It's difficult to say anything for certain about activity of that nature.
It's entirely possible the bidder likes toned coins and greattoning has good examples consistently.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the coin was appealing but a little darker in hand. $1500 seems steep.

That is very interesting. GreatToning does have quite a following but I didn't realize it was that strong.

It's a small sample over 30 days which amounts to only 5 items.
A really big player (27,668 transactions) just missed.
Spectacular coin.
... That is bizarre about the 42 percent. But once you find a seller you trust, why not? And greattoning consistently handles some really nice material ...

You mean the ones that you sometimes get in a bundle?
And thanks Bob for putting that idea into my head

Hoard the keys.
That color on a technical 62 is more of a $500-$700 retail coin, at least in my experience retailing on eBay.
