Has the Post Office ever done this to you???

They've done some wacky things, but I've never seen this happen...image Mr Kennedy was all cozy in a padded envelope...Don't worry, it's insured...

  • dunno! the envelope looks great! maybe they fixed the radiation...no more frying...just cracking it image
  • When I started I used those safe-t-mailer adhesive carboard things in an envelope. Within the first 15 shipments we got a crack like you did. I switched to the cardboard inside a bubble mailer and haven't had a problem since.

I got one that the envelop had been shredded on and the entire contents were in a zip lock bag. It had also been mailed in a padded envelop with a sticky cardboard liner.

If you use a safety mailer in an envelope, the PO will still run them through the sorting machines (which will break them on occasion). The PO does not allow you to insure an envelope now (I think for this reason, they are damaging too many of them.)

Was that a bubble envelope? Bubble envelopes alone are not adequate protection for a slab, in my opinion. I've had a number arrive cracked or chipped. The bubbles can pop, leaving nothing but thin paper between the slab and the bad world out there.

The "Jiffy" style padded envelopes with heavy brown kraft paper and the gray furry padding inside are much better. I've used those for several years now with no complaints.

I sent a 1938-S PCGS MS66 Jefferson Nickil in a padded envelope. I got it back from the buyer cracked all the way in half. It didn't crack where to coin was so there was no damage except to the slab. I collected the insurance and fortunately had another 1938-s to send to the buyer. Still ended up being a lot of hassle. I wonder if some of these people working at the post office have any sense. The package was marked clearly "fragile" on both front and back. The slab was put in a cardboard sleeve and then in a bubble-padded envelope. Still it got cracked. Pretty stupid!!!!!
  • Happened once to me, but to two slabs at the same time. Pcgs re-holdered them for $5 each. (the damage was not in route from Pcgs) image
