The good the bad and the ugly poppage

Got my poppage today. The bad - I think they were harsh on my 76's. I really subbed some gems. I only hit one gem mint 10 with 13 coming back as 9's. I am also a little upset the Sutter rookie came back N6. Finally, the Puckett only being an 8.5 is a bit disappointing as well. The good - The 79 Rose which was sharp, I thought might come back an 8.5 since I saw a couple of specs of snow on it, and it hit a 9. Hitting a 9 on the Murphy and Dawson rookies was nice as well, since, I mentioned earlier they had a couple of those white print dots on the white. Other than that they were both very sharp too. The Ugly - Who the hell knows what happened on the Seaver and Dejus cards. I guess I was more focused on corners/printing/centering and missed something bad. The ozzie rookie I knew was OC but sent it in anyway. Anyway, I got one 10 a few good rookies, the rose, and a couple of .5 bumps, so I will take it.

Holy cr*p, a 2 on the Seaver. Let me know what you missed on that one Jeff so I can avoid that from happening to me.

Some really nice grades as well like you said. Congrats and I hope you were able to upgrade some of your sets with this one.

That's actually a terrific sub, imo, for 1970s baseball~you did very well, Jeff!

I thought for sure that Seaver PSA 2 would be a pop 1 but I looked it up: there are 5 of 'em.

I wonder how many are still in the holder.

Nice, much more interesting than the "new" card forum members talking about pops. "i got 8 of 10 gem 9.5's" 2013 Chrome cards. LOL

the 2 has to have a small piece of paper loss somewhere. only way to explain that

the rest looks like some really good stuff mixed in there

    Mike,

Yeah, I planned on selling any psa 10's I got and a couple of the stars, specifically the Rose to help pay for the sub. The 9's were going to get added to my current set, so it will be a nice upgrade. Anything not a HOF rookie card from a year other than 76 will get sold unless it's worth less than the cost of grading, and then it will be kept in the "oops" part of my collection.

    Yeah
Paper loss on the back or maybe a small pinhole

Odd that the questionable grades are back to back. I wonder if damage occurred somewhere along the way. Shipping or unpacking?

    A few years ago I had a 1978 Carlton come back as a 2.
I broke it out and discovered some residual wax on the front.
After I cleaned it off and resubmitted it I got an 8.

Cards arrived today. Thought I would share some pics.

Charlie Hustle. This card is hard to find centered. I love the centering on this one, both front and back are good, IMO.

One of the Mint 76's. Not sure what kept it from a 10

    The lone gem mint 10

And finally the highlight of my lack of focus. The psa 2 Seaver.

Not sure if you can see it in the picture, but there is a hairline crease above his glove. Same thing on the Dejesus card. I guess I will focus better next time, or maybe a slight possibility something happened in transit. Who knows. I'm really pleased with the 77's I sent. I sent another group about a week ago with 25 or so 77's that are IMO better than than these, so hopefully I can pop some 10s.

Cards look really nice. Thanks for sharing the scans. It is amazing how a hairline crease makes that card a 2.

Good luck with the next round. image

Sharp cards, Jeff! I would say that centering closer to bottom of May card is what kept it out of a PSA 10 holder as there seems to be a slight tilt. The Fahey does look perfect.
