Gateway Cachets

Need some advice. My father and I have been collecting these things for 30+ years ! We have about 350 including multiples of Mantle, Mays, Paige, Ali, etc. The time has come for us to sell. I have been out of the card and memorabilia for years and was wondering if there is a market for these vintage autographs anymore ? Would it be best to sell them as a lot or individually ? Ebay them or private auction? Thank you all for any input you can give.

Are the autographs authenticated? I'm not saying what you have isn't legit, but if you're planning on selling, it might be wise to have PSA/DNA, or JSA etc take a look at them. PSA even has "quick opinion" where they take a look for a fee, so you don't have to waste your time shipping everything to their headquarters. There's so many fakes out there, people like myself are paraniod, and an authenticated signature will definitely help you realize higher prices...I would also sell them one at a time, not as a lot because someone might only be looking for a particular player, not everyone you have. Of couse if you sell to a dealer, that's different so in the end it's up to you.

Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

I love the Gateway issues and I only wish I had got started collecting them back 30 years ago (I really just own the Oriole ones). You may want to perhaps consign them by sport and/or athlete to a major auction house to get maximum value.

Their is no need to line the pocket of a TPA as any collector that would have interest in these would know the Gateway product/authenticity reputation.

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks guys ! Thanks what I was thinking ironman. The envelopes they were signed on could not be bought without the signature on them. I appreciate everyone's input
