a lot can change from now till selection sunday - seeding matters and matchups matter. Indiana had a good enough team to go to the F4 last year, but they ran into a long, athletic club in syracuse in the Sweet 16. With that being said, the teams i think will be 1 seeds come tournament time are arizona, duke, wichita state and florida. i dont necessarily think these 4 teams will get into the final 4 - a lot will depend on matchups.

Grand Canyon College is a name that few forumites will be familiar with. However, it is a small college with multiple national titles in NAIA basketball under its belt. It has players who have gone on to NBA careers (Bayard Forrest who graduated in 1976 and played for the Phoenix Suns is one).

NAIA schools have produced some very good NBA players over the years, including Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen and others.

The NAIA has a national tournament each year.

The last time I looked at the NAIA national tournament format, teams from 31 separate NAIA districts across the country play in district tournaments. The 31 district tournament winners, plus one at large selected team play in the 32 team national tournament. The national tournament is played over the course of 5 days (32 teams play on day 1, the 16 winners play on day 2, the eight winners play on day 3, the four winners play on day 4 and the two winners play on day 5 for the title). To win the title a team must play and win 5 games in 5 days. The tournament is, to my recollection, played at a single site. For many years it was held in Kemper Arena in K.C.

Some NAIA teams have played and beaten the top schools in NCAA D-1 (remember Chaminade beating Ralph Sampson and Virginia in the 1980's Chaminade tournament played in Hawaii over Thanksgiving?).

I have wandered off topic and to close will pick for the final 4:

    Arizona

    Kansas

    Michigan State

    Louisville.

Isn't GCU now NCAA DII? I seem to recall going to go a game in Phoenix (no where near the actual Grand Canyon) to watch my alma mater play GCU a few years ago.

Honestly, it is impossible to predict without the bracket in front of you. AZ could be a #1 with WI as the #2 in their bracket. But, watch out for UWGB, they will win their first round upset this year.

Speaking of 1 seeds we'll get a rematch against so-called #1 Florida tomorrow and they seemed to have had a bit of trouble against Tennessee, no? We really could use the upset and seed upgrade so those big bad Gators better be ready for us! image

And how come third ranked Villanova had so much trouble in their conference tourney? Guess it just goes to show anything can happen in the Big Dance right? Sadly, ten years ago we wasted a top seed on UAB in the second round in 2004 (and we just missed making the Final Four the year before and the year after) so maybe this time we'll be on the good side of some upsets for a change! image

Indeed, I was in fact hoping we'd get put in Whicita State's quadrant...I just didn't think we were going to get them so soon. Yes we must take care of business against that other Kansas team first, but won't that be so much fun to crash undefeated Whicita State's party just like we did to Clown U in '75? image

As I've said over at NintendoAge, screw the brackets. There's only one basketball team that concerns me. And once we take care of business against K-State (I know 8/9 games are basically tossups but hopefully K-State won't give us too much trouble) we'll get our chance to shock the Shockers! You see, exactly ten years ago we were on the wrong side of a 8/9 seed upset over a top seed against UAB in 2004 so wouldn't that be great for us to be on the RIGHT side of that sort of an upset for a change?

I know you guys may think I'm nuts for saying this but I kinda like us better when we're the underdog. Everyone talks about Cinderella teams during March Madness well why can't we maybe wear one of Cindy's glass slippers this year? image

The endless supply of stunningly gorgeous UK Cheerleaders over the decades (neigh century+???) clearly fall into the Cinderella category.

So sure, why not. Break with tradition and let the UK hoops team try on the glass slipper (sneakerimage) and see if it can be the last one standing on the dance floor (basketball court) when the bell strikes midnight.

You're gonna really hate me for this but I used to work at the Commons Market (one of the two main food service places there) and on Saturdays I very often got to see the cheerleaders go through our check out line. image I couldn't believe how TINY they were...I wasn't even sure at the time if they were even college age (like maybe the best middle/high school cheerleaders get to also cheer for UK and get a scholarship later for it or something)!

Well, I don't want to jinx them and think THAT far ahead! Now there were years like 1978, 1996, 2012 where anything less than gold was totally unacceptable, but this year isn't like that. We gotta go through the Tournament the hard way this year; one game at a time where our first game we're evenly matched but the future ones the odds will be against us big time. To get to the Final Four we gotta beat a 1, 4/5, and then a 2 to do it! That will take some good ol' fashioned grit and let's not forget a healthy dose of good ol' fashioned luck. Let's hope all our bad luck was used up in that last possession in the Florida game!

Should we indeed pull off the unthinkable as you suggest, we not only will tie 1985 Villanova for lowest seed to win a championship, but guess who was hosting the Final Four the year Villanova pulled off the mother lode of all upsets? image

Just a few weeks ago most everyone had us figured for dead...we could've been like Charlie-in-the-Box and shut ourselves up inside and started dreaming about next year...but no sir! First we crash an undefeated team's party for the second time in our school's history...then we come back from as much as 13 down to whup our rivals/now EX-defending champs, and come Sunday will be our chance to get back at Michigan for what their FAKE Five did to us in 1993! We take of business against those guys and it'll be t-shirt/cap and snippity snip snip time, baby! image

Isn't that the same ref that tossed Boeheim in the Duke game.

He's gutsy and likes to call those last second offensive fouls.

"If I say something in the woods and my wife isn't there to hear it.....am I still wrong?"

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress

Got the riot police downtown dispersing the rowdy Arizona "fans".

Nothing that bit of tear gas won't solve.
