Global Shipping Program on eBay - Question

Hey guys ... does anyone use the Global Shipping Program that eBay offers? It SEEMS like it may be a good way to go, but I'd like opinions from anyone who has tried it. THANKS!

  • It seems to work fine - If an international party buys an item, you only have to ship to a designated ebay shipping location in the states, and they take it from there. If your item reaches the US shipping location - they state you are then protected from any international shipping snafu feedback/not received claims

There are a few recent threads about it. I found this one on the US Coin forum:

There were a couple of recent ones on this forum too, including this one:

I haven't used it myself, as I don't ship internationally. I'm a small-potatoes seller so it doesn't seem worth it to me. From the threads I've read, there is a chance an international buyer might not be aware of their own country's import/VAT fees, so keep that in mind if it comes up. It's their responsibility to know, but of course they could complain to you after they've already won your item.
  • I use it....its very good

I like the Global Shipping Program. It is the ONLY way I will ship Internationally. However, the bidders don't like it cause it is still expensive shipping. There is no way around expensive shipping, not if you want to have tracking and what not.

Thanks for all the responses. Bobby, so if you use it, is the amount of the shipping automatically calculated by eBay? When you print/pay for the label to ship to the central shipping point, what's next? Does eBay then tell the buyer how much the shipping is to them? Does the buyer pay eBay directly? If so, do you have to pay a final value fee on the International part of the shipping? THANKS!

Rick ... thank you so much for that information. So the buyer doesn't know what the cost is going to be prior to purchasing the product or, if I read correctly, is there a place for the buyer to see the cost PRIOR to making the purchase?

So if I charge $2.99 for shipping, the buyer pays me for the item + the $2.99 and then pays eBay directly for the shipping? My fees to ebay are based upon the $2.99 shipping and NOT on the International portion?

If the buyer is International, you can't even send them an invoice after the auction is over. Ebay does all that for you. They inform the buyer what they need to pay. The buyer pays the auctions price, and your domestic shipping price (plus whatever fees Ebay tacks on - you just don't get the tacked on fees...Ebay does). Ebay pays you YOUR price plus shipping and you ship to a center in Kentucky. That is it.

Thanks Bobby. So the buyer pays for the item, the domestic shipping fees and International shipping fees directly to eBay? Then eBay sends me the money (to my PayPal account I assume) soon after they get paid from the buyer? So the seller pays ebay final value fees and paypal fees on the cost of the item and DOMESTIC shipping fees?

When you print out the domestic shipping label, it automatically has the Kentucky address?

Yes....You ship to an Ebay center in Kentucky....Ebay in turn ships it to the buyer. Basically, for all that added upcharge, Ebay is acting as the middle man. FOr all you care, you are shipping to a buyer in Kentucky. On your end, it is handled as a domestic transaction. Nothing extar on your end.
