Bob Feller Museum in trouble...

I went there two years ago. While it's a small exhibit, there's a lot of stuff there including the bat that Babe Ruth can be seen using to stand up in the famous Braves photo of his last game.

As a player collector of Feller, kinda sad to see this...

One of the all timers. Shame to see interest has faded to that point. I would love to visit the place if it were a little closer.
  • It's only about 10 minutes from Des Moines if you're ever there. I wish the other Hall of Famers would continue to honor Feller's legacy by signing for a discounted contract price. It will be a sad day if this place has to shut down.

With the all the money MLB has, you'd think they'd make sure to keep things such as this afloat.

  • I think it would cool if the HOF would buy it out and make a sort of extension museum or exhibit.

Awesome idea, sort of a regional/national satellite campus program targeting hometowns of HOF'ers (especially locations away from current MLB teams).

Sadly this reminds me of having a uncomfortable talk with a elderly parent with this question. What's going to happen when you're gone? Everything changed with the passing of Feller and the museum was left holding the bag unfortunately and the money advantages they had with cheaper cost signatures from HOFers visiting and signing went away. It's too bad but they are handcuffed.
  • I think if they had a different business plan, was closer to the highway, and maybe had some HOF backers/investors or THE HOF backing it; it could be successful. I would even be in favor of having it moved to Cleveland, maybe near the stadium?

You would think that the Cleveland Indians owner, Larry Dolan (whose brother and nephew are GAZILLIONAIRES - MSG, Cablevision, etc), who is worth almost 3.5 BILLION DOLLARS, would step in and help them out.

Too bad. Bob was a great player and ambassador for baseball. I met him twice. I think he had probably the biggest hand I ever shook. Hopefully someone will step up. If I win the Texas Mega Million on Saturday, I'll buy it out. And no, we won't be cutting up bats, balls or uniforms to glue onto cardboard stock. image
